No. It was the 'whited sepulchres' that Jesus warned against that crucified Him!
Those who outwardly profess 'religion', but inwardly are nothing but dead mens' bones.
They were blind guides and hypocrites, and the Lord warned us 'That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:20.
Sounds like a pretty narrow way to salvation to me! And few there are that find it!

Eric,
Right with you bro.! We are talking semantics.
I guess my point is, you can have religion, and not have a personal relationship with the Creator.
-See the quotes from the NIV below-
If you have that personal relationship, then you will have real religion.
I have known many "religious" (notice the quotes), people that cringe at the idea of enjoying God's presence, or true worship, or going into the highways and byways.
You and I are on the same page on this one.

AC 25:19 Instead, they had some points of dispute with him about their own religion and about a dead man named Jesus who Paul claimed was alive.
AC 26:5 They have known me for a long time and can testify, if they are willing, that according to the strictest sect of our religion, I lived as a Pharisee.
1TI 5:4 But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God.
JAS 1:26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
JAS 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

There is that narrow road again.
Ever read the poem, "Two Roads Diverged in a Yellow Wood" by Robert Frost?
We are called to "the road less traveled".
