Sharon ordered troops to secure the area. It was known that not all PLO "fighters" had left with the main body. Troops were to search out and detain/kill any terrorists left in the area.
The PLO has always hidden behind/amongst women and children. It was sound military logic that these areas be searched (Viet Cong/My Lai anyone?).

What some of these low lifes did was disgusting. Sharon was in command, was held responsible, and booted.

In contrast,My Lai(just picking one that is well known, as atrocities have been committed in all wars by all sides) was covered up (read- LIED ABOUT-Garandman) by U.S. command for months until eventually forced into the public eye. What did we do? War crimes trials? Investigate and prosecute all those involved?Boot the overall Commander? No, we chose to conduct a BS court marshall with a ground Captain taking a minor fall.
