I usually read the movie reviews at reel.com to see if they are worth seeing. I don't always agree with this guys opinions, but they still give me an idea of what the movie is about. Reading Tor Thorsen's review on John Q., this line cought my attention,

"he pulls out his trusty Beretta 9mm, takes everybody in the hospital emergency room hostage, and demands that his son get a new heart. While NRA-types will consider this merely another practical use for firearms..."

and pissed me off. Here is a link to their feedback. [email protected]

[red]ARRRGGHHH!...What an idiot![/red]
I just sent this:

Dear Reel.com,

I am writing about Tor Thorsen's critique about the movie John Q. starring Denzel Washington.

I take GREAT exception to Mr. Thorsen's assertion that, "...NRA-types will consider this merely another practical use for firearms...".  I am a member of the NRA.  I am also a loving father, grandfather, and a sportsman who's hobby happens to be the shooting of firearms.  I am also a retired naval officer who proudly wore the uniform of his country for twenty eight years defending the rights of fools like mister Thorsen to make such blatantly biased and scurrilous statements.  For the record, I do NOT consider the use of the firearm as portrayed in that movie to be legal, proper, or "practical".

I take extreme personal affront to such a broad brush irrational and plainly ignorant statement.  I do NOT advocate the illegal use of a firearm under ANY circumstances, nor do any of my fellow NRA members.  To imply that we are nothing but a bunch of crazed red necks with a propensity for ready gun violence is both wholly inaccurate and a complete canard on its face!

Mr. Thorsen should be ashamed at his hyperbolic attack on millions of American citizens who happen to obviously disagree with his poorly hidden anti-gun bias.

Since I am an absolute believer in the First Amendment rights of all citizens to say or write as they please, I would never deign to try to muzzle Mr. Thorsen in any way.  On the other hand, as a member of the consuming public and a great fan and purchaser of movies, I do have the right to choose with whom I will do business...and I will no longer choose Reel.com.  Further, I intend to counsel all of my friends and neighbors to likewise have nothing further to do with Reel.com.

Most Seriously and Sincerely,

Locke Wilde

I wanted to puke after I saw a preview for that movie.  John Q said something like "From now on, free medical care for everyone"  Ok, who is going to pay the doctors?  Taxes?  uh oh, I think we just approached socialism and we all know that doesn't work.

I think the movie kinda resembles that old ethics questions about your wife dieing and the pharmacist.

Don't go see this POS movie, spend your money on another go-round of Blackhawk Down.

Maybe we should sue on grounds of slander and
emotional damage.

NPR also did a piece on this movie. They said that "Denzel Washington usually plays a good guy with a gun. This time he plays a bad guy with a gun."

WTF??????????  If he played with his weewee, would that have made the report??
I HATE NPR!!!

"However, nothing works, so the now-frantic John takes the only option left to him — he pulls out his trusty Beretta 9mm, takes everybody in the hospital emergency room hostage, and demands that his son get a new heart.  While NRA-types will consider this merely another practical use for firearms"

I am disgusted and personally offended that you would print this.  I can assure you that I will not see this movie and will be sure to relay to those I know how you stereotype NRA members and more-or-less anyone who has an interest in firearms.  I really couldn't expect much more from the media than to keep with the flavor of the week anyway.  After all, it's much better to follow everyone else's lead than to apply any logic whatsoever, right?

I won't be long-winded.  That would only mean you have done something wrong AND significant, to which you have only met half.

BTW, I have CC'd Newline Productions to pass along my disapproval.

Sincerely,

An "NRA-type" by membership, and by choice.
