Great.....uneducated skinnies coming soon to YOUR neighborhood! Monday, January 21, 2002 US to Resettle Thousands of Somalis By JUMA KWAYERA SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT TWELVE THOUSAND Somali Bantu refugees could be resettled in the United States after sailing through the first screening phase in Nairobi and also in the Daadab and Kakuma refugees camps in the northern part of the country. The US embassy in Nairobi is now scrutinising the names of the refugees who will undergo another assessment to verify the legality of their presence in Kenya, possible criminal history and health status, an embassy official told The EastAfrican last Thursday. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Nairobi office, the Bantu Somalis will be resettled in the US on the basis of being "negatively discriminated" against in Somalia, their native country. The Somali Bantus' plight came to the limelight after the overthrow of the Siad Barre regime in 1991, after which the country plunged into factional fighting, now in its 10th year. They fled their homes in the Juba River valley during the civil war because they did not support any of the warlords in the conflict. Their farms were seized by bandits, forcing them to flee to Kenya. According to Mr Andrew Hopkins, the UNHCR resettlement officer, the denial of the means of economic and social advancement in comparison with other Somali ethnic groups had made "a very good case" for the Bantus' resettlement abroad. "They are simple and uneducated people, who view their repatriation to Somalia as a return to continued persecution," he said, adding that the minority group had suffered more than two centuries of persecution in the hands of the Marihan ethnic majority to which the late president Barre belonged. In 1996, the Bantus petitioned the UNHCR to grant them special privileges, through a Nairobi law firm, Ibrahim and Issac, arguing that the clan fighting in Somalia had threatened them with extinction. "Even before the civil war, their rights had been trampled upon," Mr Ibrahim Mohammed, the Kenyan lawyer who represented them, said on Friday. The US embassy in Nairobi confirmed that Washington was processing the resettlement of refugees under a special immigration programme for groups of people "who have founded fear of being persecuted in their country of origin." Some 70,000 refugees are expected to be admitted to the United States this year, a third of them from Africa, under the programme through which 3,800 Sudanese refugees living in Kenya, mainly teenage male orphans, were approved for admission to the United States in 2000 and 2001. If the white farmers are being "negatively discriminated" against in Zimbabwe, can they come here too?
Link Posted: 1/22/2002 3:15:20 PM EDT
Can we consider them "invaders" and defend ourselves?[;D]

Well, I sure didn't mean to ruin your mood, Beekeeper, but it gets even worse when you think about it. Not only are they AIDS infested, this is part of that "ethnic treasure" of folks that practice female genital mutilation. How nice that we will also be importing *that* little cultural gem, practiced on their kitchen tables with rusty razor blades. Oh, and you can BET they will be on welfare, not much market for illiterate shepherds in this country. I can't believe we couldn't have shipped this scum to say, France, where they like that sort of folks. And what timing! Right after Blackhawk Down came out! 12,000 of em!!!

[sarcastic mode on] Why discriminate? The door's already open for simple and unedumacated Mexicans, so why make a fuss about the skinnies? They will be automatic Democrats eventually too! :) [sarcastic mode off]

Every war, every natural disaster, every civil insurrection, every bad economic policy around the world since the 60s has led to us taking in refugees. In a crazy, irresponsible world like this, it's endless. Just think about the billion that are yet to come. If they can't handle their affairs then we must step in. It's the compassionate thing to do. They're incompetent, you see. Also take note that when they compare the "resettlement of refugees" here to other counries, they are talking about permanent residence and eventual citizenship, because THEY NEVER GO BACK. This is unlike other countries (Pakistan, Thailand, etc. which have large refugee populations) which keep them in camps until the eventual day of their return to their homeland. Non-western nations have no plans to keep refugees permanently, and have always stated this. We are the crazy ones.

I'd prefer it if we trained and armed them. Then, they could fight to keep their homes. That's a sustainable solution, and a few thousand rifles with training would be much cheaper than what we're going to spend on welfare, housing, and health care for them. Of course, it's not politically correct to teach people to fight to protect their homes and families. Instead, we take them thousands of miles from their homes and place them in another culture while scattering them across most of a continent. For all practical purposes, their culture (and language) is ended by this action. While some of you guys say they don't deserve the reward of living in this country, I say they might not deserve the punishment of having their culture disappear into history. If they are brought here, how much will their children really know about their parent's and grandparent's way of life? Probably not much, because they'll be too busy playing video games and watching TV. Finally, we complain when they don't fit-in and become productive citizens when that is a difficult task considering the language and cultural barriers.z

My great great great grandparents were from Ireland. There was this blight. The locals here hated them, but they made due. Hypocracy isn't only a way of life here in America... It's a whole damned philosophy.

How many Irish folks had attacked the US back then? And they probably could read, and knew about things like living indoors and wearing shoes. Sorry, no comparison. Not a damned one of them went on welfare on arrival, either. The taxpayers didn't have to pay for them. These tribal somalis are clearly unsuitable to blend into our complex society, not to mention they have ZERO skills that we need here.

Can't domestically produce Democrats fast enough? Just IMPORT them.

Thousands in two different wars. Even after that, we allowed thousands of hungry Irish refugees into this country. Why would you imply that we haven't been attacked by the Irish? Growing-up, I can remember people who were still upset at the Irish for burning a local church.z

You missed the main point. We did NOT pay the Irish immigrants welfare on arrival. The Irish did NOT attack Americans who went there to help them with the Potato Famine. And the Irish had something to offer when they did arrive here. They had skills useful to our society.

Why not? Why couldn't they get along with even one of them? Are they that good or that bad? Why didn't 12,000 of them pick their own leader, 'cause not one in 12K was worthy? Yep - we really need 'em here. I'm sure none of them have ever trained in a terrorist camp either. How hard would it be to hide another 20 terrorists in a group of 12,000? (That's .001%, BTW.....) I don't like the smell of it.
