can you place a pre-order?
Link Posted: 1/21/2002 6:38:40 PM EDT
MournSword wants it,MournSword gets it. I have not been offered any yet. Thanks for your business. We don't try to be the cheapest, just the best. We will accept orders and enable the "add to cart" buttons when it gets here. I think Lake city is the best ammo out there for SHTF ammo. I also shoot it at least once a week out of one of my many AR's. Eric the ammoman

Eric... I thought L.C. wasn't available for civilian use for a long time now. What's the deal? The coveted Lake City ammo hasn't been around for a while, how is 2000 production ammo available?
From Troy's Ammo FAQ: Where can I get US Military ammo, like M193 and M855? Due to an Executive Order signed by President Clinton, the US military can no longer “surplus” ammunition, except via the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), and the CMP does not sell 5.56/.223 ammo. US military ammo (most notably from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant) used to be widely available, but has become quite scarce, and the prices quite high, in the last few years. Though some military ammo components are “saved” by contractors disassembling the ammo and selling the components, most expired or out-of-spec lots of ammo are burned. Billions of rounds of ammo, paid for by US tax dollars, are burned yearly.

Regardless, I just ordered 1000. You'll also be making 19.00 more on my 1000 then on anyone elses, because I'm a dumb shit. I didn't see the 1000 rnd option, only the 500, so I ordered 2 of the 500 @ 109.00, instead of the 1000 @ 199.00. My bad.

Love to buy some, but doesn't this .62 gr SS-109 ammo have a steel core? If so it would be illegal to buy in Massachusetts. If not let me know cuz I want some... Gib

It's "5.56 LAKE CITY XM193 55GR FULL METAL JACKET U.S.G.I. LAKE CITY AMMO BRAND NEW BOXER PRIMED MANUFACTURED IN 2000 U.S. MILITARY AMMO PACKAGED BY FEDERAL"

I wonder how that loose Lake City 55 gr. in cans differs from the Federal/Lake City XM193?
Link Posted: 1/21/2002 9:12:56 PM EDT
It should be pretty much brand new ammo. New brass, new everything. It's military ammo made in 2000. How he got it I have no idea. My post above has a quote from Troy's Ammo FAQ, and he's a very educated guy when it comes to various ammo issues. Hope Eric shows up to fill me in.

Hi M4 Times change and we do get overruns here and there. This product will not be unlimited and should not be here to stay but i am not sure it's just a one shot deal. BTW we will correct your order at billing and only charge you the $199 No way we would take the extra from you, unless you e-mail and tell me it's my tip [:)] Thanks Eric the ammoman

Eric.... That's great to hear. Thanks for the reply and the removal of my own self imposed dumb shit tax. I've been thinking about my next 1000 rds for too long now, but I guess it wasn't too long at all. Just long enough to make the 1000 Lake City 5.56. Thanks, and great price!

Eric, Is it possible to pick up ammo from you in person? (I am in NJ and I saw on your website that you can't ship to NJ residents)

Eric, does the SS109 meet M855 specs? From the AR15.com ammo FAQ: "The US military’s M855 round is loaded with the SS-109 bullet, though the US military has additional specifications that ammo must meet before it can be called M855. So, while all M855 is loaded with SS-109 bullets, all “SS-109 ammo” will not meet the M855 specs." Thanks

Why is SS109 good again? I've been using some of the (israeli manufacture?) winchester, ordered from ammoman a while back. It was much cheaper. Why is this stuff worth the price? I'm ig'nant.

bump? zor? Nobody can enlighten me? I did a read-over of the ammo FAQ but still couldn't figure out why ss109 is all that much better than other brands. Will it be significantly more accurate at range? Will it pierce things better? I'm just curious. I mean, already, I'm a relative neophyte shooter with a much better rifle than I'm worth (LEGP, thing is way more accurate than I am.)

SS109, or if you want to talk true U.S. Mil-Spec SS109, which is called M855 isn't usually better for most AR uses. The primary and pretty much only advantage you get with M855 is beyond the 350 yard mark, which is that it will penetrate hard targets better. The down side to M855(SS-109) is that inside 200 yards, M193 fragments MUCH better, penetrates hard targets better and can effectively be used in AR's with a variety of twist rates. M193 also performs better out of carbine length barrels or shorter ones. I have Mil ammo for just a couple of purposes, and most of those would involve shots inside 200 yards, where M193 has a clear advantage. Out to 350 yards, M193 is still a VERY effective round. I personally don't shoot beyond 300, so I have no use at all for M855. It also has a steel core, which some ranges will not allow you to shoot at all. Read the entire FAQ, seriously. It isn't that long, and just scan down to read the comparisons and advantages vs disadvantages of both. www.ecis.com/~mraudio/AR15_Ammo_FAQ.htm

Thanks! btw, random side note: can anyone remember what the twist rate was in the LEGP barrell?

Most likely 1:9, but I don't own one so I'm not sure. Most AR uppers these days are 1:9.

P.S.- Just got my 1000 rds of the Lake City XM193. Ordered on the 22nd, received on the 25th as promised. Compared to the prices and selection of ammo locally, Eric gets all my ammo business. Thanks for the correction on my order(that was my fault), the fast service and great price. Again, a pleasure doing business with you Eric.

Maybe I'm confused - Is the ammo still "pending"? Can it be pre-ordered? Thanks.

Same her, I just tried to order and it said it is not available. -elliott

Stupid Question: The Lake City 55gr listed as part #223-LKEB-1000, is this the same as the M193 55gr FMJBT Ball, plain tip listed on the ammo FAQ? Also, any idea when it is due in?

The XM193 is not the prettiest looking ammo out there, but is the BEST ammo I have ever shot. The ammo is completely water-proof due to the bullet being sealed with asphaltum right under the neck of the brass, and the laquer coating on the primer. The ammo is ultra-hot and about 25% more accurate than the IMI M193, I am used to shooting. Last weekend, I shot 5, 5 shot groups, under 2", (how about that for an M4 style weapon) at 100 yards with my pre-ban Bushmaster M4gery with 16" barrel and Trijicon ACOG TA 11. I also have a Jewell trigger and a shimmed lower reciever(makes the rifle more accurate when there is no slop between the upper and lower reciever). I would highly recommend to anyone, buy as much of this ammo, as you can afford, because it is AWESOME.
