here's all this concern over Enron going south with investigations, accusations, talk of scandal and finger pointing up the wazoo. And yet Kmart is also going south, with stock prices plummeting, and why isn't it automatically assumed there's some corruption there?

[] Why isn't there an investigation into Kmart? I'm not saying that Kmart is Enron or that the cases are similar, but you still have a business failure. Why aren't people saying, "What's happening to Kmart is exactly what's wrong with American culture and capitalism." What about all the Kmart employees that are going to get hurt? Where is the compassion, sorrow, and concern?

It's obviously not the discount theory that is at risk here. The discount retail operation thrives at Wal-Mart. And what else thrives at Wal-Mart? The sale of guns. What used to thrive at Kmart? The sale of guns. Why doesn't the sale of guns thrive at Kmart right now? Rosie O'Donnell.

Rosie O'Bumble, Kmart's corporate spokesperson, was allowed to go make some political statement, which insulted a great percentage of Kmart's customers, who in turn actually established boycotts on-line and said to each other, "The hell with Kmart, let's go to Wal-Mart. If they don't want us, then why should we go there?"

Now, I'm not saying that what happened in the gun department at Kmart is the sole reason, but do you think the press would ever, ever conclude that Rosie O'Bumble as a spokesbabe for Kmart might be one of the problems? Hell no. She's a God-fearing great liberal queen - or princess, if you'd rather. And so no blame or corruption is possible because she probably doesn't even like Kmart anyway. It's a capitalist entity and all that. It's just amazing.
