Not very common but you can still buy them and they kick the shit out of almost all 45's. Smith Performance Center pistols are among the very best. Extremely durable, reliable and accurate: http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i24/SkagSig40/100_1383.jpg A Smith and Wesson Auto??? Your joking right, those things are terrible... You are obviously ignorant about 3rd gen Smiths. Also post a picture of your choice of 45 getting a better group at 25 yards....put up or shut up! |

You said accuracy AND reliability.
So... HK45 or USP Tactical by a mile |

my daily carry is a Kimber CDP II
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c46/Unclebillybonz/100_0685-1.jpg If you're a fan on the 'tupperware' type guns the XD is a good choice IMO. I don't have the .45 but I do own the .40 S&W http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c46/Unclebillybonz/XD.jpg |

Before this is over someone will have mentioned every single manufacturer as "the best". I'll throw in the CZ-97B, just because I like CZs. I've never even shot one. |

reliability http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/7493/dsc9156copyty6.jpg You can't go wrong with a good custom 1911 either i have never had a HK pistol but I have read that they are not reliable at all. I would say the Sig would be the best .45 on the market, not including custom high end 1911. |

I USED to think that the 1911 models were the tits.
That was before I got my G30sf. IMHO if you dont think the G30sf is better, its only because you have not held or fired one. |

Springfield XD. The 1911 is the most beautiful and feels the best, but isn't in the same league in terms of reliability...or capacity.

I couldn't shoot a group that tight without divine assistance, but 3rd gen Smiths are great pistols. In the field of .45 ACPs, where most of the Euro offerings fall short, they're among the best you can get. |

IMO the SIG P220. I used to have a couple of them; they were accurate, extremely reliable, and a joy to shoot. If they were so great, why did you get rid of them? Let me guess. So you could get a Glock? Nope. I'd still have them if I didn't have to sell the arsenal to finance my divorce. As much as I miss my guns, the divorce was well worth it. ETA: Also had a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 and a Glock 21 (13 rounds of man-stopping .45 goodness). Although they were both fine guns, the SIGs were my favorite of the .45s. |
|
I carry a Springfield Champion Loaded and love it, but! My XD45 Tactical is an amazingly easy pistol to shoot well. My friends and I were simply amazed by our ability to shoot very, very smalldouble tap pairs, while MOVING with that pistol.

1911. Reason? It's what God shoots. Black Stainless Loaded Target- mine is pictured here. I have one of those. 1/3 mags fired will result in the last piece of brass getting stuck vertically in the mag's feed lips. And it must be the gun, all of my mags are 47Ds. |

1911. Reason? It's what God shoots. Man, that was funny!!! I love the M1911A1 but honestly I like the Glock for reliability, comfort, and accuracy. Don't know if I'd drag one down a muddy ditch then throw it down a mountain but for street carry, I don't think it can be beat. |

XD45 for the exceptional accuracy and the capacity out does ANY 45SCP pistol
|

1911s are a class of their own...........ALL OF THEM are pretty darn awesome.
I think that for semi autos , the FNPs are pretty darn awesome , i'm looking at getting one now. |

There are a few TOP pistols, I dont think there is a single handgun in all the MANY MANY different models that you can just pick out at the gun store, point at it and say "Yes, that is the best handgun evar!"

Quoted: http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn205/thecanuck11/Wilson008.jpg And no way can HKs be the best 45 available. The triggers on HKs are horrible. Even Browning said his newer hi-power design was a better design than the 1911.... it isn't the end all, be all pistol. |
|
Hk's P7M7 would top my list...
Then, I'd go for one of their P9's... Then, their Tactical 45 would bring up the rear... |

Colt Gold Cup Trophy
Why? Because it's the only one I've inherited. |

I gotta have one too! |

Out of the box? Toss up between the HK45 (THE HK45, NOT the USP in 45) and the S&W M&P.
...and I carry a 1911. |

I will throw this out there and get an obscure one out of the way: CZ-97b. I know there are better makes out there, I just love mine. Great value for the money. Agreed. Mine is a joy to shoot, and amazingly accurate. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I've had good experience with:
Sig P220-carried it, qualified with it, liked it. Large trigger guard for gloved hands, Single stack mag is reliable. Accurate. One of the best out there right now. Looking to buy a Sig P220R myself. If I could own no other pistol, this would be it. HK USP Had one for awhile. Accurate. Has large trigger guard for gloved hands. Good ergonomics. Can be carried like an M1911 series. Don't like the double stack mag, but keep it clean and it'll work. Not a fan of plastic frames, but whatever works. Good quality. Glock 21 Have owned three. Carried one in the field for awhile. Small trigger guard, not good. Double stack mag-must keep clean to be 100% it'll work in the field. Simple to use, accurate, reliable. Again, it has a plastic frame but this does help to absorb recoil too-it's give and take. M1911A1 Owned several. Timeless design. Still works. Reliable. Small trigger guard that won't accomadate thick gloves is my only complaint. Other than that, it's the god of all Cal. .45 pistols. Just my .02 cents |

I've got both a 1911 and an xd45. Love both but having an extra 6 rounds in the magazine is always nice. accurate as hell too!

One of my 2 Baers:
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/blkt72/baer002.jpg That is a Baer TRP, a limited edition, commander sized pistol they produced to a distributor's specs. Drool in awe over the TactiCool cardboard box. My other is a SRP, no pics though. |

In terms of accuracy and reliability, what do you consider to be the best .45 ACP semi-auto available today –– and why so? (There are so many platforms and manufacturers that I'm not even going to attempt a poll.) It is the one that each member owns. I prefer Springfield Armory. It's what I own... |
