This is an update on the WTC petition...looks like they're contemplating on whether to put it up now! YOUR SIGNATURES AND INVOVLEMENT WORKED!! Thanks guys...

The Fire Department is set to pressure its landlord to scrap a controversial statue planned for FDNY headquarters — and it looks like the real estate mogul might give in as early as today, sources said.

The bronze work is based on a famous photograph of three white firefighters raising an American flag at Ground Zero. But the $180,000 statue depicts one white, one black and one Hispanic firefighter — angering many of New York's Bravest.

At the urging of Mayor Bloomberg, Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta is set to meet today with Bruce Ratner, whose company, Forest City Ratner, owns the downtown Brooklyn building that houses FDNY headquarters.

Sources said that Scoppetta plans to ask Ratner to reconsider the work — and a spokeswoman for the landlord said Ratner is amenable to changing the memorial plan.

"Whatever the Fire Department wants to do is fine with Forest City," said the spokeswoman, Joyce Baumgarten.

Ratner's reversal came hours after Bloomberg called the controversy "unfortunate" and said he asked Scoppetta to "look at" the issue.

"The commissioner wants to see something that would please the majority," Frank Gribbon, the Fire Department's deputy commissioner of public information, said yesterday. "He is very concerned about how firefighters feel about this issue, so he is looking into it and hopes that whatever monument is ultimately built will be something that everyone would be proud of."

Ratner had defended the statue, saying he wanted to build a tribute representative of all 343 firefighters who died on Sept. 11.

But many firefighters said that the work sacrificed historical accuracy for political correctness. Some suggested a larger statue depicting firefighters of all races and nationalities.

Right on! On vote does matter!

You're right naked, one person can make a difference (one at a time!). Just think, at some point, one person had the idea to put up the petition site. Then, one person (at a time) decided to spread the word about the site. Then one person (at a time) decided to vote at the site.

WE MUST ALL DECIDE TO FIGHT,
            ONE AT A TIME!!!
