This is the "before" picture of a good friends CJ7 Renegade. Some of the pics are not great quality. We took it apart in October 96 and it was on the road in April of 97. This was a frame off rebuild complete with an after market fiberglass body. Everything that could be painted...was.

This is the rebuilt 258 and other parts in the spare bedroom of Tims house. The life of a bachelor.[:)]

Here are engine,suspension and interior parts after we sand blasted,primered and painted them. Everything that was painted was base/clear coat. We assembled the jeep in a 2 bay garage.

This is a pic of the fiberglass "tub" on the frame. The body comes with no holes in it. All we had from the old body to go by was the firewall. The rest fell apart when we took it off the frame. The only original body part on the jeep now is the windshield frame. It took us 2 days to build the courage to drill the first hole. we wore out a 3/8 electric drill building the jeep.

Here is the body after we disassembled it. It was sprayed with the same filler/primer that we used on the frame to take care of any imperfections.

Here is a pic of the front firewall. Check out the holes we had to measure for,measure again and again then drill.

Here is the body painted. Mike (bodyman extraodinare) engraved lines on the body to mimic the ones on a steel body. These were then painted the same color as the frame. One is visible where the cowl curves down to the lower body.

Here is the rolling chassis complete with engine and tranny. The brake lines have all been run as far as the junction block and the gas lines as far as the pump.

Here it is complete. I know the pic sucks. I have some of it in a local car show and will post one when I find it. The hood is fiberglass and the fenders are original Jeep steel. The original rad support was rusted out and we were extremely lucky to find a used one. A new one was $400 and obsolete. The doors are off a YJ. It was a heck of a lot of fun building the jeep and spending Tims money. It has been driven every summer for the last 5 years without any serious glitches. It was our first "frame off" build and I'm very proud of it. The summer after we finished it we entered it in the biggest car show east of Montreal and took first place in the 4X4 division.[bounce]

Wow Cool to see one of the old CJ's reborn !! lotsa work but looks like it was well worth it
Hate to see old CJ's rotting in back fields and doofus's wont part with em--gonna rebuild it --someday! yeah right ! Good job guys ! Had a 76 J5 golden eagle with a 304 in it hated the CJ5 body but she went anywhere I pointed like a raped ape ! pissed I ever let it go. Still got the wrangler though and she's comin up on her 10th birthday soon and looks like the day I drove her off Jasper Jeeps lot !

Looks like a lot of fun, wish I had more time for that.

So did you replace the Carter BBD with a differant carburator, or have you considered Mopar MPI fuel injection? I too have a 84 CJ7 and am now debating dumping the BBD for the Mopar.

doublefeed..I didn't pick the colors.[:)] It does look very sharp when you see it for real. It took awhile for it to grow on me though.
Chaingun..nope it still has the original carb on it. What a POS they are.
vinnie & 7 Tim considered a lift but went with the original ride height. It has polyurethane bushings in the suspension and body mounts and is really stiff. We really didn't feel like sliding around on the roll bar after taking a corner to quick.[:)]

Great looking Jeep, even though I would have used different colors LOL. IMO lifts are nice if you see a lot of mud, but I've found out from experience that even a fullsize truck will go just about anywhere with no lift and 31" tires - deep mud is the only place it'll have trouble. I don't think I'd go higher than 33" on a Jeep and 36" on a fullsize if I wanted to be able to do anything at crazy angles.

It's funny how you mention the Carter BBD - I've owned 4 318-equipped Dodge trucks that had the BBD, and they NEVER gave me any problems. I'd have those trucks at angles so crazy that I had a point in the seat (had to hammer them flat when I got level again), yet those carbs never stuttered, flooded, burped, or anything. The only problem I ever had with one was a bad (ripped) accelerator pump diaphragm on a 77 W200 I had in Germany. I love 'em!

I have my own project in the works right now - swapping a 5.5L Volvo TD60 diesel into my '85 K10 w/6.2L. Tranny will most likely be an NVG4500, but if I can find an NVG5600 for the nice price I'll use it (my current SM465 is also an option, with a Gear Vendors overdrive.) It should be interesting to blow by guys in Cummins and Powerstrokes in my "diesel Chevy" and see them scratching their heads when they can't catch up LOL

LOL actually it's fuchsia (I think) not pink. The purple is very close to Plum Crazy.
