I did some research a year or two trying to find the elusive "$50.00 surplus jeep" that doesn't exist.  There are still several outfits that sell service parts for them.

As far as $900?  I've always heard that if a 4x4 vehicle runs & the 4WD works, it's worth $1000 regardless of body condition.

I wouldn't want to buy one over the internet but yes, definitly sounds worth it.  It is probably worth more than that to a collector though.  Buy it and sell it in one of those car buyer guides and double your money.

show him $800.00 and drive her home!
you can get parts everywhere for Willy's Jeeps, and they're dirt cheep. BTW, have you ever driven one? not very calming to the kidneys, and the one i drove wouldn't go much over 35mph! but they are highly collectable, in any condition. also, what kind of top is it? any doors?

YES! It's absolutely worth the grand. There's several clubs out there that can help you on parts, both aftermarket & restoration/original. Buy a couple of four wheel drive magazines at a book store & peruse thru them at your leisure to find more info. Hope this helps.

I think $900 is a good buy, but go to a bookstore and pick up a copy of Hemmings Motor News to see what comparable vehicles are going for as well as to check on parts availability.

My good friend, Jon Ponulak of Main Street Motors, Somerville, NJ, once gave me the greatest piece of advice: "Any car that runs is worth $800."

If it's a cool vehicle, like a Willys, and has 4x4, then a grand sounds fine.

One shot, is it a Jeep or a Willys pickup truck? Either way it is worth $900.  Jeeps of that era have the worst brakes of anything on the road at the time, and if it is a pickup, the 4 cylinder engine is kinda anemic.  Out side of those two things, they are excellent.  Dont try to push it past 40 mph.  My dad worked for a Willys dealer, and we have owned Jeeps, a Willys 4x4 wagon, and even two Aerolark sedans.  Any specific questions, Email me.

It's sounds like a great deal.

My boss just bought a 1952 Willys pickup 3 weeks ago.  He paid $3,500 for it.  It's in decent shape.  I drove it to the body shop where he is getting body work and a paint job.  It has a 74HP 4cyl., 3 speed 4-wheel drive.   Top speed was 45 mph.

Sounds like it would be a great winter beater.
