This garage near me has a 1947 Willys that runs great, has good tires, new clutch, 4 wheel drive works fine, gas tank was replaced with a GM unit, original was unservicable. The body and bed are in rough shape, but not a rustbucket by any means, with the roof over the cab having the most damage near the seam behind the seats. All it needs mechanically speaking, is a rear brake line, and a new ignition switch(pushbutton). The owner wants $900 for it. That seems like a good deal to me considering it would make a great snow vehicle and work/play truck. However, I don't know anything about Willys, and I am trying to find out if they are decent trucks/jeeps. I am not really interested in restoring it, so the body doesent bother me at all. I just want to know about the reliability and how hard it is to get parts to keep her running. Thanks a lot.

It has two hard doors and a hard top with a small pick up bed. This jeep is in New Rochelle, NY, close to my job. I will see if I can get PICS to show you. Right now all I have is a short video of the body, but I will get some kind of camera to take PICS.

oneshot. I would go over the drivetrain very closely. Not so much the motor as the rearend, front axle, hubs and transfer case. Fixing a transfer case involves big bucks and finding a used one in good shape that fits your application can be impossible. Same as the axles/center section. If the ring and pinion in one are bad there is a good chance you will be looking for 2 as you need the same gear ratio in both axles. A body that has been neglected or bubble gummed together is a good indication the rest of it hasn't been looked after either.

Thanks for the great advice. This place is better than an encyclopedia. You guys are the best. My car is DOA, after a trip to the range, and PA during X-mas. The head gasket blew, burning several valves on the front bank of cylinders. The head is not cracked, thank GOD! Got to get back to work right now, Thanks again.

I went to put a deposit on it this morning and it was gone! It wasn't advertised for sale, no sign or anything, so I asked who he sold it to. It turns out that he kept it and drove it to his ranch in upstate NY. I was a little angry that he didn't call me first because he told me that I had a full month to make a decision before he has to move it. I guess I will have to look for another project vehicle.
