Please do not donate to the Purple Heart Charity.

If you ask what is the Purple Heart Orgainzation, they are supposed to a charity devoted to Purple Heart receipents of past wars.  Around this time of the year they would use telemarketers calling you 3 times a week requesting donations in forms of clothing, housewares, computers, and vehicles in order to provide assistance to disabled vets and their families.  Your donations were supposed to be fixed up and sold through stores such as Value Village "a non profit outlet" and the proceeds distributed to the vets.

From the investigation of the Houston BBB and Fox 26 news, Value Village is a for pofit organization and that from the 25 million in profits for the year 2000 only 5 million was donated to the vets.  Purple Heart leased the rights of their name in exchange for an undisclosed amount of money.  All stuff donated is being sold for a profit.

I've always wondered about those folks.  They seemed kind of shady to me.
