Preliminary findings of autopsies released

The preliminary findings of the forensic pathologist who conducted autopsies on the shooting victims in the Nu-Wood incident at Goshen confirm the initial report by authorities of a murder/suicide, according to a report by the Elkhart County coroner.
The coroner, Dr. Jeff Landrum, reported Saturday that Greg Oswald, 35, the Nu-Wood plant manager, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. He said Oswald suffered two shots from the shotgun. The death was ruled a homicide.
The other fatality, Robert Wissman, 36, Goshen, is the person that witnesses said fired the shotgun that killed Oswald and wounded six other people at the southside business Thursday afternoon.
Wissman died after four self-inflicted gunshot wounds, the Friday autopsy showed.
“We took all matters into consideration,” the coroner said, as representatives of the Indiana State and Goshen police attended the autopsies as they were conducted by a forensic pathologist.
“There is ample evidence to support that the shots were self-inflicted” to Wissman, Dr. Landrum said.
Three of the four wounds, with time, could have been fatal injuries, he said, but none of those three caused the death. The fourth shot was the fatal wound, though.
The coroner said the results of toxicology tests will be known later this week.
Tragedy not  the first for Wissman family

Thursday was not the first time the Wissman family had endured a murder/suicide at the hands of relative with a shotgun, both apparently based on trouble with a relationship.
On Thursday, Robert Wissman killed a co-worker with a pump action, 12-gauge shotgun before turning the gun on himself. According to Jeff Landrum, Elkhart County coroner, Wissman shot himself four times.
On Oct. 6, 1985, Willis Carl Wissman, Robert’s uncle, shot and killed his wife, Carolyn Wissman, with a pump action, 12-gauge shotgun in their home at 411 N. Ninth St. in Goshen. Willis then turned the gun on himself, getting off one shot to the chest. The Goshen News report from the day after said Wissman survived five hours of surgery at Goshen General Hospital.
Current police chief Terry Schollian, then a sergeant, was one of the first officers to arrive at the scene.

Three hurt in shooting remain in hospital
Three of the six people injured in Thursday’s attack on employees of Nu-Wood Decorative Millwork, 2515 Industrial Park Drive, Goshen, remain hospitalized.

The most serious of the three is 27-year-old Rosario Rodriguez, also known as Jesus Hernandez, who was shot in the head. He was listed Saturday night in critical condition at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Also at Parkview is Kaestner K. Richard, 52, who was also shot in the head. He was upgraded from serious to fair condition.
Michelle Morgan, who is three months pregnant, remains hospitalized at Goshen General Hospital. She was shot in the hip and the hand and had to undergo surgery Friday. Hospital officials said she remains in fair condition.
The other three employees who have since been released from Goshen General Hospital are Michael Cardoza, Brian C. Baker and Jorge L. Rivera.
The six and Nu-Wood’s general manager Greg Oswald, 35, Syracuse, were shot during a shooting rampage at the factory by an employee there.
The employee, Robert Wissman, 36, 516 S. Main St., entered the plant and started firing at people. Oswald was killed and the gunman turned the 12-gauge shotgun on himself, firing four times, according to Elkhart County Coroner Dr. Jeff Landrum and Goshen police.

Geez, 4 shots with a shotgun?!! What did he hit with the 1st 3 shots his toes?
I've seen pics of shotgun wounds to the head and usually 1 shot makes quite a mess.
Just goes to show what a loser the guy was, couldn't even do suicide right.

You would have to be a pretty bad shot in order to require 4 shells to commit suicide!

How do we wake up the hunter crowd to the threat of gun control?  Propose shotgun bans.  Propose magazine tube restrictions. Propose shot size restrictions.  

I'm just wondering if he had to reload somewhere between shoots 1-4......
