when I was young I had a Tamaya(sp?) model set that had a German machinegunner shooting with the gun barrel resting on another guys shoulders.  Wouldnt the barrel get real hot?

The Germans did that a lot when they used the MG34/42 in the LMG or anti-aircraft role.  One kraut would grab the bipod legs and put the barrel on his shoulder.  The gunner would be behind firing the gun.  Forget about the hearing, that barrel mush have been HOT.
