Heard MANY accounts of this being done, by all branches, and many different nation's armies as well. Had to do with never having the right MG mount up front when it was needed. A universal, trans-national complaint.
Possibly a Human-Condition thing, like never having winter-trigger kits until the following summer. |

that much i can understand. I know about the hearing reaction cutting out in combat but i just have to believe those guys went deaf during a sustained fire fight.

when I was young I had a Tamaya(sp?) model set that had a German machinegunner shooting with the gun barrel resting on another guys shoulders. Wouldnt the barrel get real hot?

The Germans did that a lot when they used the MG34/42 in the LMG or anti-aircraft role. One kraut would grab the bipod legs and put the barrel on his shoulder. The gunner would be behind firing the gun. Forget about the hearing, that barrel mush have been HOT.
