DonR is right as usual, poor old SA must be a martyr, he just can't have it any other way.  How truly sad that the "right" to post some sluts on a gun site is more important to you people than fighting for your gun rights.  If only you put the same effort into the latter as you people put into the former, maybe we'd have an easier time.

SteyrAUG if you were interested in resolving this issue you would have e-mailed GB. Instead you posted it here knowing full well the reaction it would get. That tells me you have no interest in finding a solution to the problem here. Rather you found another topic to replace your babe of the day thread.
View Quote

[red]Striker is right on target![/red]

I've kept out of most of this since I really have enjoyed most of Steyr's posts (not necessarily the BOD ones -- as you can see naked chicks anywhere on the net)

BUT...

I also have tremendous respect for ALL of the moderators here and am Juan and Don are among my closest friends.  (good thing I didn't reverse the names and end up with "Don Juan") [:D]

In the past, whenever I stepped over the line with a post or had an issue with any of the moderators or Goatboy, the issue would generally get resolved with a barrage of PRIVATE e-mails.

To my detriment, I generally tend to get emotional about things and act in an immature fashion.  So... I can understand how things escalated to this level.  (*I* used to be a prime offender -- remember the mcuzi.com days?)

The adult way to resolve this is for the matter to be handled PRIVATELY between the involved parties.

I do not (contrary to Hinelines's assertions)
suggest this in order to keep the rest of us "in the dark".  It would just put a quick end to this divisiveness and allow us to return to the business at hand:  Bashing Liberals, Talking about Firearms and Having Fun!

While I am rambling on, there are two other issues that I'd like to discuss:

(I am not stating the following in any official capacity -- it's just my personal feelings on the matter)

1.  The "New" AR15.com:
In the past, *I* was one of the biggest offenders of posting adult and/or pornographic material.

After many heated discussions with AntiUSSA (who I USED to despise and NOW consider a great friend), I finally came to the realization that this site should be a place that is more "friendly" to the younger members and female members.

This does not preclude having fun, pushing the limits a bit, even (if GB deems it appropriate) having a BOD thread.

If/when I ever have kids, I would like to have them have the ability to peruse this site without having to be inundated with naked chicks and scat pictures in every thread.

Just my (simple minded) thoughts...

(BTW:  WHY DO I KEEP HITTING THE "MESSAGE IS TOO LARGE" LIMIT !!!?????????!!!)

#2. Paid Membership.

There seem to be a great many questions about the contribution system and membership.

When he initially instituted the program, Goatboy firmly stated that non-contributing members would never be treated any less than a contributor. And that this site would always remain free for those who do not wish to or cannot afford to assist financially.

Bottom line --  It costs a fortune to run this site and my personal feelings are that if you feel that you derive some benefit from the site, and can afford to assist, that you should become a "Team AR15.com Member".

Some of the costs that most members probably do not even know exist:

- Server Hardware  (add up how many servers are in their rack just to keep this alive! -
web / dns x2 / mail / chat / SQL server / etc..)
- Co-Location Space
- Bandwidth (this site generates ALOT of traffic)
- Software (heck --  a single license of MS Win2k Advanced Server is over $2000)
- Legal Fees
- Goatboy's TIME away from paying projects

So.. tossing them a lousy $60 bucks seems pretty cheap to me.    I know that Goatboy does not feel this way, but when I see members complain about the way things are run here and note that are not a contributing member, it irks me.

I believe so strongly about this that, in order to make "Team Membership" more attractive and to add functionality for the members, I contributed the WebMail and e-mail system / servers / hosting / etc...

Contrary to alot of what I have read in the past few days, the Avila's did not set up AR15.com to be a "Get Rich Quick Scheme".
In fact, keeping this site available for everyone here is a very financially, emotionally, and time draining experience for the Avila Family.

Oops..  One last item:
The Avila's, the moderators and staff here are NOT paid or compensated for their work.
Being a moderator is a thankless job and those guys really deserve a pat on the back!

Issue 1.  BigPig acted without reason and has never apologized for 'jumping the gun' or explaining his action in the first locked thread.

Issue 2. Steyr blows his top and harshly attacks BigPig.  Steyr has since apologized.

Issue 3.  Don in public attacks Hineline without provocation and doesn't see anything wrong with that.  Resolved www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?id=75716

Well except when you called BigPig names like a big man right?

About a month ago after a misunderstanding, I prepared to excuse myself from AR-15.com. This was in large part due to a misunderstanding between myself and anitUSSA. A “few” moderators told me to just ignore it and it was you who told me “Don’t let them win”, and encouraged me to remain. I have since resolved the issue between antiUSSA and myself as the misunderstanding that it was.

A month ago I was very concerned that I really didn’t fit in with the new “kinder and gentler” more family oriented forum. It was for this reason that I decided to just walk away. I had no ill feeling towards the forum, I just felt that I would be out of place.
View Quote

God you really need to have self control.  Either walk or talk.  You are STILL talking.

But it was you who convinced me to stay. You told me nothing was wrong with what I posted and I should not have deleted my post history. You told me the ideas put forth in the chat room were not a done deal. In short you told me nothing really changed and I was stupid for thinking I should leave. I also have posted with far less frequency than before the “anti” incident.
View Quote

Blah, still the same pattern.  You are high maintenance.  God you are worse than some of the high-strung women I have dated.

I am sorry Babe of the Day has caused you so much grief. I’m sorry members take this post as far past the limits as they same to take every post. BOTD being so popular it is more recognized when abused. If I started trouble on “Sig vs. Glock” it would take a lot for it to get locked or even noticed. I was made aware that I have been the subject of much controversy in the moderator forum. That is unfortunate. I would have done anything asked by you. I was not aware of the “only one babe topic” decision when I made my reply post to BigPig last night.
View Quote

So instead of waiting to find out you just make an off the handle decision with limited information.  How adult.

Had I been privy to your wishes I would have understood. Again, you only had to ask. And I’d also like to point out that many “babe” threads were not mine, even the current one. I tried to only have one going at a time. Also, as I became aware of the problems associated with BOTD I tried to correct it with SteyrAUGs Perfect 10s. If you read the first line of this post, you would see that I tried to create a “babe” topic more in line with the “new” AR-15.com. And when this one was seemingly arbitrarily locked without cause I blew a fuse. I could use the “in a bad mood” defense but it has been taken.
View Quote

And would it matter if you were in a bad mood or not?  The difference is GB said he was in a bad mood and was enforcing the rules.  If you say you were in a bad mood you were still breaking the rules so does it really matter?  And if this is how you act in a “good” mood maybe you should walk to the http://www.ilackselfcontrolandliketothrowtantrums.com boards.

On to the topic of BigPig. You have chosen to stand by your moderator and his “just in case” decision. I have chosen to stand by my current assessment of him as a moderator. That would be the former “unedited” assessment.

I am not sure how you know this?  And I would like to add that you yet again get to say something bad as you said you would not in the first paragraph without accountability. (Give’s Steyr a Scooby snack, good boy(?))

At the end of the war some Johnny Church do gooder came out and painted over the nose art on their B-24 bomber. He was at least as pissed as I was last night. I think we both reacted in a similar manner. I think he would have approved of my actions.
View Quote

But why?  You cheapen your Grandfather’s service to this country by even comparing the two.  You say he was pissed, did he throw a tantrum like a little girl?  Was he warned not to throw tantrums and yet still whined about it days afterward?

Also I really don’t have a compulsive need to do “babe” threads as has been suggested by some of my detractors. The original was really the only fun one for me. The rest I did for the members because it was popular. If I didn’t start one, someone else would.

And we couldn’t have that!  You wouldn’t get the positive reinforcement that you need! How selfless of you.  (That’s a good boy! That’s a good boy!  Ooooops!  Don’t pee!)

It's just my worthless opinion that SA is doing the exact same thing here and now, as he did when he freaked on me a couple of months ago...  He went on a multi-thread, multi-page tangent then, and is doing so again, right here and now!

I also loved the way he referred to the former problems as being the "Anti Incident".  Forgive me, but isn't HE the one that started the entire fisaco that time too, by removing ALL of his posts and threatening to leave and never again post on anything but technical threads..?  Excuse me for being ignorant, but where exactly did this technical aspect come into play with any of the "BOTD" or "Top 10 Babe" threads..?  Could it possibly involve the engineering aspect of the size|weight ratio of fake breasts, or possibly it pertains to the proper designing of bikinis, thongs and panties in order to acheive the perfect camel toe as viewed by members of AR15.COM..?

I called him a martying "Pied Piper" then, and a feel that it sticks more now than ever before.

FWIW: Velveeta sums it all up the best!

I'm 32 years old, I've known literally thousands of guys, and had hundreds as friends through out the years. In that time I have never known a man to be so wrapped up in their own drama as S.A. This guy just doesn't feel like he's alive unless he's at the center of attention, or creating a victim out of himself in some superficial form.

Didn't he recently get married? For a guy with a new bride it amazes me that a)He's got the time to come here every day, many times a day to post pics of "babes", and b)Has the desire to do so at all.

I guess he's got a little more time with the little lady after getting the boot. No doubt about it, he'll be back. He clearly needs this place as some sort of compensation for a void in his life. He'll be back, by invitation or a new account. He'll be back.

Costs like Park Avenue Rent [;D]

BTW, Go Linux. Micro$hit isa ripping you off. Linux is free and can do anything that MS can do. Legal Fees...? How often is this site sued ? Bandwidth ? Again, another example of AR15.com financial waste. You need to stop buying bandwitdth and start leasing lines outright. You can lease a line and say I will pay a set amount of x dollars each month to have this line or you can buy bandwidth in which they give you the line, but charge you by how much bandwidth is used. By leasing the line rather than bandwidth, you can remove bandwidth from the cost equation altogether (except for Server Stress.)

Oops..  One last item:
The Avila's, the moderators and staff here are NOT paid or compensated for their work.
Being a moderator is a thankless job and those guys really deserve a pat on the back!

So you don't own most of your servers, huh ?

Also, as far as the expensive Servers, you can build the same box for 1/5 of the price Dell or anybody else charges you. But, I assume you are just renting Server Space, which is why you use Co-Location rather than Leased Lines.

You really have a nasty attitude.
(and that means something coming from ME -- I never thought someone could have a worse attitude than me, myself and I!)

Not that I have to justify ANYTHING to you, but --> here goes:

- Does Linux offer their own version of SQL Server? (I am no great fan of MS, but this is how the site has evolved --  are you offering to buy some servers and applications for them?)

- Does Linux offer a multi-domain MX server daemon that supports the WebMail interface that we use?

- Does Linux offer CLUSTERING for fault tolerance?

- Legal fees: Um...  Trademarks & Consultation
(do you wish to lend us YOUR attorney and commit to a retainer?)

- Development Costs:  HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK it has cost the Avila's in terms of time to develop this whole system?  How much $$VALUE$$ is attached to this outlay of time?

- Babysitting Costs:  Someone has to answer questions for the "shitums".  How much of MY time was wasted just responding to YOUR rantings?  (I'll send you a bill from my Park Avenue Offices)

- Bandwidth A:  Are you a total fucking idiot?
The site sits on TWO FULL T1 circuits (not fractional) DEDICATED to the boxes that serve up this site at the co-located facility in NY. (WITH shadow frame relay for redundancy)

- Bandwidth B:  Back-Up Facilities: 1 FULL T1 for remote backup purposes and secondary DNS and backup MX.

- Bandwidth C:  FULL T1 Dedicated (with shadow ISDN backup) in my office in NJ JUST for the AR15.com Mail Servers.

Do some math...   How much does each T1 cost per month.  (avg. is around $1500/month@)

How about power?  Take all of the racks of hardware, run 'em continuosly and add HVAC into the picture.

How about the cost of the servers?  Does Linux or FreeBSD come with free boxes?

What about ongoing maintenance and upgrades of the computer hardware?
Isn't it a nice change to see a firearms related board with SPEED ??!!??

Before getting involved in the technical side of this site, I was a visiting member for several years. I enjoyed the knowledge that I derived from the site and the friendships that I made here.

The Avila's have provided everyone a home and have never demanded anything other than the observance of a few simple rules.

They have never demanded financial renumeration from the members.  Becoming a "Team Member" is strictly optional.

SOME people just contributed because they wished to give a hand.

"AR15.com Financial Waste"???
You really are a wise ass.
How much money do you think that the Avila's take home from this little enterprise?

Well.. I've got news for you:  IT COSTS THEM $$ !

When I see a little picture next to YOUR name OR when I see some respect from you for the people who have built this home for us, I will treat your future questions seriously.

Oh yeah.   Maybe YOU could build our servers yourself !    Throw in some off-shore components and we'll be good to go !

The RACKS are Co-Located.
In a secure telco facility.
(for redundency and security and ease of access)

On the NJ end, the servers are sitting in a rack in my offices.  All Dell PowerEdge 4400's running RAID5 w/ redundent power supplies.
(with 60 minutes of UPS standby time and 2 back-up generators)

Maybe we could haul all of the equipment over to your house and we could string up a really cheapass dsl line and run some extension cords out of your housing project's window to apartment next door?

Can we bring it all over this weekend?

Or can we just stick everything on your cable modem?

How truly sad that the "right" to post some sluts on a gun site is more important to you people than fighting for your gun rights.  If only you put the same effort into the latter as you people put into the former, maybe we'd have an easier time.

First of all, you don't know a God-damned thing about 99.99999% of the people on this board. Do you know how many have written letters to or called their legislators? Do you know how many are members of the NRA, GOA, JPFO, all three, or even more? Do you know how many have, in their own way, stood up to defend their rights under the 2nd?

No? Then SHUT THE F*CK UP!   [-!-]

The fact that we, who all agree on our rights under the 2nd Ammendment (otherwise we'd be bottom-feeding over at VPC's website), decide to argue over "sluts" on a website has NOTHING to do with our dedication to our rights.

I find your post to be snide, arrogant, holier-than-thou, and indicative of the typical megalomaniac who gets a little power and goes nuts with it.

You knee-jerked on SteyrAug's last thread, a thread that was tasteful and which he specifically set up in accordance with the latest guidelines set forth by GoatBoy. If you don't like those guidelines, why not take them up with GoatBoy rather than locking a thread because it MIGHT go bad? Who are you, the Thought Police? Since you can obviously see so clearly into the future, would you be so kind as to give me the numbers for the next Florida Lotto?

Allow me to paraphrase YOU:

"If only you put the same effort into punishing real violators as you put into banning people who start threads where others commit violations, maybe we'd have an easier time."

"If only you put the same effort into fighting for your gun rights as you put into banning people who start threads where others commit violations, maybe we'd have an easier time."

I'm afraid that GoatBoy's defense of you may be mistakenly misguided. Every post I've seen from you leads me to conclude that you are a pompous idiot who is fully deserving of the name you've given yourself. Hopefully your stupidity won't drive many people away from what is otherwise a great web site. Judging from some of the posts above, that may already be happening. GoatBoy--This is YOUR business! Are you listening?

Don R, it is YOU that need to be exterminated in an extreme fashion. You are such a LITTLE man you just jump on the bandwagon of banning accounts (we all know you are the one banning) at the slightest hint of someone disagreeing with you. You'd be fragged in a New York minute in a war.

ROTFLMAO!

Great idea: "I'm suffering emotional distress because I might get banned from my favorite website because of what someone else does!"

Where's Johnny Cochran when you need him?

Oh, yeah - He's probably getting ready to defend Bin Laden....
