Heard this earlier this evening on MSNBC. That the US was looking at some of our holdings in the South Pacific as sites to hold Taliban and Al Quiada prisoners and conduct military tribunals for terrorist leaders.

However I cannot find a link on the internet for this. I must say that it is a VERY interesting idea. Using Johnson or Howland or Wake as a POW camp.  They definently wont be going anywhere we dont want them too.

Umm, we gave that back to the natives already...  With the recommendation not to eat anything that grows on the island.  Thus, We give them tons of food to sustain them.  But we did forcable move them off their home island, and repeatedly nuke it...  I guess the least we could do is feed them after we moved them back to their poisoned soil.

Oh, and it was minus one smaller island...(the H-Bomb tests eliminated that island from the planet).

Or was it the Bravo shot that vaporized the Island?

 Chuck

(On second thought, maybe it was Mike that did it, whichever it was, it was the first time that they used an enhanced core for the weapon.
It was enriched with Strontium)

Why save the remote, sun scorched, radioactive atolls for the "important" criminals. Why not just dump the rest of the kiddie raping, armed robbing, felonious miscreants we have lounging around watching cable TV at taxpayers expense there and let them fend for themselves a la Papillion?

And we could test an occasional nuke there periodicaly as a way to wipe the slate clean every few years.

I'm sure it would at least make a good TV show.

Why send Osama and friends to a nice, tropical island when there's so much empty wasteland in Alaska available?

The test was called Castle Bravo in 1954.

It showed how little we knew about H-Bombs at the time, we were trying to make a 4Mgt weapon. The resulting explosion was 15Mgt. Something like a 325% above planned yeald, in a era when they were happy that the things went off at all, and to get 95% of projected yeald was considered a astounding success.

This test also ranks as the largest radialogical disaster in US history.  Even TMI didn't release the radiation this did- nor could it have.

How about an island off Prudhoe Bay in Alaska?  Of course, if there is a permanent ice cap, they could walk off the island.

Easy, don't give them any shoes and allow an air dump of lego's over the terrain surronding the prison camp.

No one would ever try it more than once!

Why the south Pacific?  George should cut a deal with Putin and rent out Siberia for a bit.

Siberia wont do for the same reason as Alaska.

It has to be a island so the US Navy would have 100 percent control not only of attempts to escape but also people- the media- to get in.

We already have military reservations with airfields in the South Pacific, so we dont have to build new ones.

There are few/no civilians we have to move out of the way.

The weather, while unpleasent, isn't fatal and men can live there in just tents, no need to build a perminent prison.

If you watch that movie, you will be absolutely amazed at what you see.

The part that struck me was the man who designed the Hydrogen weapon that was detonated in the Bravo shot.

The thing was so utterly powerful and destructive as to defy description, and the guy was giggling like a kid, proud of what he had wrought.

I thought that one would have to be a seriously bizarre type to be proud of creating such a thing.

OK OK OK, I am jealous. He thought of it first.
