Hi,

It seems that I hear only good things about the M1A Scout.  Being as I'm in CA it seems to be the only way to go.  Aside from the shorter barrel length and the forward mount (which I wont use) is there any advantage over that instead of having a full-size M1A?  Any other thoughts on this gun are welcome.

I would go for the full size. I have the Scout and love it, but I have heard that some have problems cycling. Something about the scope mount messing with the recoil system.

Either way they are a blast to shoot.

I have one of the early PreBan bush rifles and I love it.Only drawback is no chrome barrel.
All GI parts otherwise.

Buy the current Dec 2001 issue of Soldier of Fortune magazine.  They have a very favorable review by Chuck Karwan on the M1A Scout.www.sofmag.com

Over at assaultweb.com in the main battle rifle section "Different" posted his findings on the scout. He's just gotten one and was letting everyone know his findings (positive).
He is REALLY up on the M1A/14 system.

Put an Aimpoint on that mount.
You will not be disappointed.

The Muzzle Blast will be greater due to the shorter barrel and the muzzle break. Muzzle Flash will be larger. Otherwise the Rifle will be lighter and the difference in muzzle velocity between both the Scout and the Standard rifle will be negligible.

Sight Radius will be a little shorter on the scout. Should be about the same. Just that the scout will shoulder a little faster.
