Hey guys, my father is flyig down to my place sometime in Jan.   My poor dad has led a rather boring life, so he says.  Well, after 9/11 he really wanted to join the military but he's old and fat.  He was whining on the phone a couple nights ago about how much he'd like to experience combat for once in his life (I know, its not all that glorious, humor me) and I was thinking as a surprise I could take him out with a couple mags full of blanks and some blank fire adapters and let me and him spend some time stalking each other, and of course shooting in each others general direction.

This is where I need your help.  I need someplace to buy blanks (cheap!) and a place where I can get some blank fire adapters. but my Cav-15 doesnt have a flash supressor so its gotta fit on some other way. If you have these things and want a trade instead I have some things for trade (still!) which are:

1 buttstock without the buttpad
1 lower parts kit
1 pistol grip
all from an oly arms PCR kit.

Please give me a email at:
[email protected]

If you can help me make my dad feel special and me give him something to recal when he's old and stupid I'd appreciate it.

I would recommend paintball over blanks; live rounds could migrate into the can and cause all kinds of trouble. Maybe just bringing him to the range with a bunch of different guns might be a better idea.

Just my $0.02
good luck in your search.

Yeah, I'd say a really good paintball session (maybe get a few guys together) and then afterwards take him to the range and let him shoot what ever you have available - go out and get some Usama targets, etc...

Then buy him a weekends training at FrontSite or GunSite... for the holidays.

Hmmm, sounds good to me - think I'll put a bug in my wife's ear [;)]

Listen to SDavid.

You can't tell when you've been tagged by a blank.

Those paint balls can hurt.

Seriously, do paintball.  It will really be more of a rush for him than running around with blanks.  Fear of pain from being shot most of all.  Plus there is teamwork and strategy.  Much more fun than just running around with blanks cause there is real fear.

I don't know why all you guys are whining about paintball.  It really doesn't hurt that bad unless you forget the "strategically placed 3rd kneepad" or unless someone is using frozen paintballs.  Seriously though, paintball would probably be more fun than playing with blanks.

No paintball, I don't want to hurt the old bastard, I want to scare the crap out of him and bond a little.  Paintball is not that.  I think I can load only blanks into a mag, it shouldn't be that hard!!!

I still need the info so I can get ahold of someone that can hook me up with some blanks and BFA's!  HELP!!

JoJo, you can buy dedicated blank guns pretty cheaply (relative to the real thing) I think you can even get a full-auto. Also, I don't know how much it costs, but BeamHit Inc. makes an upper for M16/AR-15 that fires blanks but contains a laser that can tag a person when their hit. Assuming of course they are wearing the proper target.

I hate to butt in, but this sounds like a very bad idea to me...

I don't know exactly what you have in mind, but running around with firearms and camo outside of your own land could be trouble. Unless you have a really good place in mind where you will not run into other unsuspecting people, I'd stick to paintball.

Not to mention the fact that I was taught to never point a firearm at a person I didn't intend to hurt. I don't care if it's blanks or not, sounds like a bad practice, and one that could lead to too many unforseen troubles.

Paintballs don't hurt that bad, and the only advantage of using real firearms in your scenario is that you get to run around with a real firearm and pretend you are a real mall ninja.

So IMHO, I think you should ditch the idea, and take everyone's suggestion of the paintball.  In addition, that adds an element of teamwork and competition.  Hell, find one of those indoor paintball matches, I've always wanted to try that...

Then take him to the range to fire real guns in a controlled environment.

If you have to do the "real" thing, rather than paintball, why not take part in a military re-enactment?  You might be able to find one during the time your dad will be visiting.  Around here, they have a hard time finding people to play the bad guys.  If that doesn't work, I also suggest paintball.

If you absolutely have to have them, Century has blanks.

Have you considered suggesting you father get into reenacting? There are lots of different time periods to portray, from Rev War to WW2 and even some who reenact Vietnam. It would be safer and more realistic than running through the woods near your home.

Put him on a plane blindfolded, with a parachute, your gun,and a shit load of mags loaded with the real thing and then drop him into Afghanistan. That ought to be some real exciting action over there.

As I said, a dedicated Blank Gun cannot even chamber a real round. Most use 8mm Blanks, which are not easily mixed up and definitely wont chamber in regular guns or the other way around.

Some, blank revolvers use super short .22s or 9mm Blanks. I would avoid the 9mms since there is a chance of human error.

Paintballs don’t hurt… in a game, and only very rarely after a game. Paintball is not combat but the adrenalin rush is sooo good. Military personal tend to do poorly first time out, they have to lose the ‘I’m a professional solder’ attitude. That is what makes it good for non- military personal, shorter learning curve. You get to the fun sooner.
My experience (started 1987) with father/son paintball is, play on the same team you both will get the ‘crap scared’ out of you, you both will share the wins and the loses, working as a team (most of the time) makes for better memories to recall and discus later.

Blanks are a dud, shoot (w/paint) someone in the ass is great.
If you do go play and there are “Pro” paintballers playing, aim to blind them.

NSFjojo, I'm interested in the buttstock and/or lower parts kit, but I've only got 30 .223 blanks (on stripper clips).
Is there anything else you're looking for to make a fair trade of some sort??

-Cory.

BTW, I think what you're considering is a VERY bad idea.
