Yeah, well if anyone bothered to do a little further research they would learn that the Supreme Court (that venerable institution that we are all so fond of for ruling correctly in the presidential election of 2000 and rely upon to keep the other branches honest) has ruled in the past that such courts for foreigners are legal. That is the precedent. I believe that ruling came in response to saboteurs during WWII from Germany.
It never fails to amaze me that folks here will say because something could happen it likely will. What is it like to live in that state of perpetual paranoia. A certain degree of paranoia is healthy, but those looking for a conspiracy in every pot need to get a life.
What this executive order says is that terrorists are not committing domestic crimes, they are committing acts of war. As such they are subject to military law, not civilian law. Since they are not regular troops in a standing army they are not afforded the protections of the Geneva Convention. And guess what folks, the Supreme Court has said this is legal.
I'm pretty DAMN sure that the Supreme Court would limit the scope of this power to what has been done in the past, foreigners that have committed acts of war.
