I'm looking for a hard case to keep a rifle in my vehicle. I'm going to lock the case and cable it to the vehicle to secure it. I don't want or need the best out there, and I don't want to spend any more than I have to. But I want it secure. I have a Bushmaster case that just fits where I need it (that's where I got the external dimensions), but I think someone with a knike could cut it open. I do not, however, need it to be water tight or air tight. Extererior must be no more than 3&3/4 inches tall by 10&3/4 inches deep. Internal Length must be at least 36 inches. Please post prices and sources with your rec's. Thanks

Look into SKB cases. I was thinking about seeking one out myself tomorrow. I haven't owned one for a gun, but I own about thirty for some of my gig guitars and to date I've checked them when I've flown, dropped them down stairs, tossed them in and out of vans and I have had no breaks or damage. I do have a friend that ran one over a bass in an SKB case and it cracked the neck very slightly, but he was in a Prevost bus so that's almost a given.

This isn't exactly the portable solution you're looking for, but you might also check out TruckVault ( 800-967-8107) http://www.truckvault.com. They seem to enjoy a good reputation among LEOs that require secure in-vehicle weapons storage.

I got just the thing! It's made by GUN GUARD, it's their takedown shotgun case. It goes for about $40... you can mail order them, or even get them at Oshman's, etc.. 4" x 11" x 37"

Starlight Cases. I got 2 of their Double Rifle Cases to use for my .50 rifles. It is the factory Barrett M82A1 case right now. I got them for $105 each shipped for Factory seconds. If I had not been told they were seconds, I would NEVER have known it. The double rifle case: www.starlightcases.com One like you describe runs $159 + shipping, but it is well worth it. AFARR

I'd have to agree. I have two of their cases, the double scoped rifle and the double takedown. Both of these cases are hell for strong and are almost impervious to damage. Highly recommended. Note - These cases, especially the large ones are no lightweights and I'm talking #'s.

If it's a bolt or semi auto rifle of PC configuration I would say Kolpin Gun Boot. 25 bucks and it mounts on your three wheeler too. AR's do not fit, however, unless you have a flattop.

I looked at TruckVault, too expensive, not removeable when you need the space. very cool, though. anyone out there have a case that meets the measurements and won't break the bank?

The heaviest duty case Ive found so far is made by Starlight... - they are offering 15% off for online orders http://www.snipercountry.com/StarlightCase.htm link to a review http://www.starlightcases.com/

Starlight, you used to get 30% off for mentioning sniper country don't know about now. Clinth

Another vote for STARLIGHT!!! I have one of the Double Rifle cases as well...if they have one the size you need, the blems are huge money savers. I would have never known it was a blem. Not only do you get a super great case, but they include good instructions and a utility knife to cut the foam insert to fit your riffle. Also, Brack Wilson was great to deal with. If customer service is important to you, I don't think you will be disappointed with Starlight. That link to the Sniper Country review of the Starlight will tell you everything you need to know.

Looks awesome, but I checked the specs, and it won't quite fit. Anybody else?

GLOCKshooter- My personal motto regarding this type of thing is to spend the money once only. Pelican is what you're going to want, if not now, but later. High end goes for about $200, less if you shop around. I've got three of these things, and they're absolutely Marine-proof. Best of luck... http://www.pelican.com

I second Pelican. Mine have been beat to crap and still look pretty good. Pricey, but you'll only have to buy them once. Luck Alac

I have one of those, and 2 of the 4 claspes on the front broke-off just carrying it back and forth from my house to the range. It will easily hold standard size AR with a scope no problem. I still use it today but I have to use a belt to hold it together.

I have some friends that use the Pelican cases. I believe the Starlights are in the same class. How is the customer service from Pelican? Glockshooter, Starlight makes all sizes, they should have one that will work for you. Have you checked out the Starlight web site?

Yeah, I checked. Six inches is the lowest dimension they have on a case that will fit a 36" rifle, and I need just under four inches to fit under the back seats. Cabela's was a good websight to view prices and specs of different manufacturers and models, but I couldn't find one that was right. Any other suggestions of cases or sights that will alow comparisons?

I use a 3/4 size acoustic guitar case filled with layers of 1" foam cut out for 16" collapsable stock carbine. Also room for extra mags, ammo boxes, whatever you need! Doesn't look like a gun case...

Another vote for SKB...outstanding quality, durability, craftsmanship.
