garry, you still haven't given me any specifics as I asked for in your other thread on this topic. If you were moderator of this forum, what topics would you allow and which ones would you lock? What crosses your line?

Well, this is going to sting a bit...

But it is funny how perspectives differ.

Some people seem to think that getting older (reaching 18 or 21, ala an 18+ forum) menas you get to do anything you want, without anyone "moderating" you.

To me, childhood is dominated by the "I must have my way" attitude.

Getting older / growing up / maturing, to me, is charachterized by curtailing my own personal desires, accepting authority over my life (boss, gov't within Constitutional limits, family responsibilities) , and acting with self-restraint and decorum.

Just my $0.02. Hope ya'll feel it was worth at least half that much.

I think you are misplacing blame here.

The scat thing was ONLY the catalyst.

What CAUSED the recent events was the AUDACITY of Goat and the Mods (at one time, I was a Mod) placing rules and creating a Code of Conduct.

The scat thing was irrelevant.

Some people REFUSED to follow the rules, so the Code of Conduct HAD to be enforced.

If you must assign blame, blame those who took the good will of Goat in allowing the non-naked "babe" threads and misused it, simply becasue they couldn't control themselves.

There is a long and storied history of the misdeeds of a few causing negative consequences for many.

Blame those who BREAK  the rules.

Color added by me for emphasis.

Check your premise.

I think of the Constitution, and Bill of Rights is all about insuring that We The People had authority over our government.

Kind of lost in the wind now but never the less...

Valid question. let me clarify.

The Bill of Rights is what I was referring to when I said "within Constitutional limits." But in spite of the existence of the Bill of Rights, the FF all acknowledged that the very existence of gov't was based on the principle of the consent of the governed agreeing to a ruling body that would have Constitutionally-based authority over them. Until said people saw it necessary to disband said gov't, and create ANOTHER Constitutionally- based authority over them.

But as has REPEATEDLY been said here, the Billof Rights and the Constitution are NOT the controlling authority here.

The site owners are. And part of growing up involves abiding by "house rules" when you visit someone elses house.

Part of growing up is engaging in PRIVATE discussions when you disagree with how someone runs their OWN house. NOT enlisting the aid of the mob to rally round you, in what ostensibly is an effort to corner the "owner of the house" to see things your way. That is what these types of threads are all about - mob support to coerce the owner to change his rules. If someone has a beef, take it up in private.

My opinion.

YMMV.

I just meant my post as in terms or our elected public servants.

The assault on AR15. com was disgusting. but I can understand GB. THis is a gun site, ok we have general discussion about other things. If we talked about women and attitudes, fine, if we talked about men and attitudes, fine. But the semi-naked ladies went to an extreme. There are other boards that are all for that.
As for the  free speech and Bill of Rights, this is not the goverrnment, GB can do as he sees fit. If he loses memmbers, that is the American way.
I also don't want the anti's coming here and seeing all the semi naked women and racist remarks and using that to tell the world how offense gun guys are.
Also we do have some memberrs that are under 18, and it could cause problems there.
GB has tho think of the board, peroid. If you wnat semi-naked women....there are sites for that, guns and talk are good.

Forums Conduct Code:

The following is an evolving series or rules for conduct on the forums. All moderators feel free to modify and/or contribute to them.

CONDUCT GUIDELINES

1) No racial slurs or comments. This isn't about being "PC" it's about respecting each other.

2) No inappropriate pictures, links, or topics.

2a) Nudity is acceptable if it is linked and preceded by a warning. This means simple adult nudity. There should not be links to anything above and beyond simple classy pictures. Posting of pictures without links should be done with pictures which do not reveal parts of the human anatomy...

2b) No linking of porn sites to the boards. There are millions out there..we don't need to link them all here.

Striker 01/10/15

2c) No linking of innapropriate material. This would include sites with information on how to make illegal modifications to firearms, purchase illegal items, view illegal porn, hate sites, and so forth.

2d) No innapropriate topics. This includes all of the above and further covers topic titles of a racial nature, sexual nature, or violent nature. A good example is the "Babe" or "Hunk" of the day posts versus "Fetish" or "Sex Story" of the day posts. The first two are acceptable, the last two are NOT.

3) Threats of violence against another member written in a serious manner. (If its a joke, make sure that point is VERY clear.)

4) No pissing matches. Its fine to disagree, but once a thread has run its course, and degenerated into little more than an insult fest, it will be locked.

Garandman - 06/15/2001

5) Fraudulent practices or attempts to defraud another will lead to account suspension and banning. This is in direct reference to items offered for sale, trade, or leading someone on as a buyer. (Backing out of a deal is one thing, stringing someone along to torture them is not.)

This also applies to people posting fabricated lies about another user or business. If you have a real issue, discuss it, but don't make up lies because you're upset with someone.

Goatboy - 07/07/2001

6) Pure trolling. Either to piss someone off or simply for your personal enjoyment. If you're here to cause trouble, it will be a very short stay.

7) No personal attacks towards ANYONE. If you have a problem with someone, then take it offline with them. If it's with a member of the staff or a moderator, then contact someone from the Senior Staff. Attacking a person, ANY PERSON, in a non-joking manner (clearly visible as a joke) will not be tolerated. Joking and teasing are fine, but if you cross the line, apologize before things get worse. This includes provoking someone into an attack.

AR15.com is intended as a home for ALL AR15 owners, where ALL civil, productive and positive discussions are encouraged. Anything not meeting these objectives will be stopped.

Any of these violations will lead to your account being suspended. This is not the US Court Systems, you get one chance.

OK, which rules are too restrictive, and how would you change them for an 18+ forum?

If the point of this thread was to show some sort of hypocrisy in the emoticons, I don't see it. The emoticons are not graphically sexually explicit, racist, or threatening in a serious way. They may portray violence, but in a humorous way, not in the graphic manner of actual persons being harmed.

[b]Below is from a previous post of mine.[/b]

A little story about my day.

After a great nights[sleep] , I woke up around 6:00am.  Got dressed and grabbed some [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/food/coffee1.gif[/img] a  [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/food/banan2.gif[/img] and a quick [smoke].  Logged on the [img]http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/mica/MiscManhack.gif[/img] and checked out AR15.com.and [argue] for a while.  Since it was my [bday] I was feeling pretty [:D].

So, I drove to my [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/people/people.gif[/img]  [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/shelter/doghouse.gif[/img]. On the way over a [img]http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/mica/trooper.gif[/img] pulled my [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/trans/land/roadster.gif[/img] over a gave me a good [stick] for speeding, I was [pissed]
Anyway, I picked my  [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/people/people.gif[/img]  up so we could spend the morning  [shotgun]  [img]http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/mica/hamstergerbil.gif[/img]. We had a great time [shotgun]  at  [img]http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/mica/hamstergerbil.gif[/img]-- and [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/food/pepsi.gif[/img] all morning.

Later I had  [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/food/picnic.gif[/img] with my [img]http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/mica/female.gif[/img] at the park. The  [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/food/picnic.gif[/img] made me [puke] so I had to go back [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/shelter/doghouse.gif[/img].  I took a long [sleep] . After I woke up me and [img]http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/mica/female.gif[/img] the  had [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/food/picnic.gif[/img] and [beer]. After dark we engaged in [img]http://www.tartarus.net/images/bodyparts/lips.gif[/img] with great [sex] and other [spank] fun.

All in all it was a good day.[:D]

Garry, I g t the meaning the message. I don't try to offend anyone, but the fact remains that I do. My values differ from yours and yours from "?".
Myself as an adult can make my decisions on what I'll participate in and what I won't. I also get to choose what I'll let my kids participate in also.
I think we have a well balanced board here. The ocassional boob shot was ok and if it wasn't I didn't click on it anymore. The "guy stuff" is good. This is my home on the internet. GD is where I go. The AR is great but there is only so much one can talk about it(ducking the incoming flames).
Ok I've got to take the kids to school (stepping off the box).
We that have been around awhile know this will pass!
