Cracked a smile over this one. http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.shtml?a=2001/10/23/190457 In an article headlined "When Brains Go on Vacation," the National Rifle Association ridicules "ludicrous" statements made after the terrorist attacks. The November issue of the NRA magazine America's 1st Freedom offers these gems, among others: NBC "News" morning gabfest host and tabloid cover boy Matt Lauer saying "pilots are human beings; they get depressed; they get suicidal; they get angry. If they're armed, isn't that a formula for disaster?" The magazine's response: "Earth to Matt! We already trust our lives to pilots every single time we fly. Doesn't it make sense to better equip them in order to help make us all safer?" House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, D-Mo.: "I don't think we need pilots to be trying to be security officers." Response: "And we don't think we need career politicians telling airline captains how they're allowed to control and secure their ships." Former gab host Phil Donahue argued that "the memory" of the terror victims would not be "honored by going out and killing other civilians." Response: "To our knowledge, nobody in the Bush Administration had advocated 'going out and killing other civilians.' Incidentally, what would be your response to the attacks, Phil? Maybe a nice thank-you note to Osama Bin Laden and an invitation to dinner?"

Sounds like they stepped into the "No Spin Zone."

An it is ABOUT TIME the NRA started addressing these ludicrous statements by the leftist mouthpieces. The NRA needs to learn that appeasement of these idiots is a formula for failure. Hit 'em. Hit 'em hard. If they get up, hit 'em gain. Time for the NRA to grow up in their tactics, and I applaud this type of response by NRA. Time to "take the gloves off."

Jesus H Christ, where have you been for the last 10 years? Are you even a member of the NRA? It sure doesn't sound like it.

Boomer, Garandman is right, the NRA has been working, but they have been kinda of lightly stepping around things like this. Don't get defensive, get offensive, the NRA is not fighting for the rights of the Class III guys or most of us with black rifles. Ice

In fact, wasn't that issue of American Rifleman in which the black rifles were featured touted as a LEO issue? Kind of gives me the feeling that the NRA is not too keen on military rifles being in civilian hands. And I'm an NRA Golden Eagle so don't f*ck with me.

Hey, I'm not saying the NRA is perfect or has made all the right moves. But to imply that they have simply been sitting on their hands is pretty ignorant. Matt, I guess you missed the review of a DPMS AR in the current American Rifleman? I've seen way more articles and reviews about AR-15s in the American Rifleman aimed at us "civilians" than LEOs.

Then you should remember when the NRA really took on the BATF as jackbooted thugs.
