I'm a NYC LEO looking to pick up a nice M1 Garand (damn FrankSquid, see what you did!).

How do I go about buying one from the CMP?
How long does it take to get? Also which one to get 30-06 or .308?

Shoot a service rifle match.
Send the DCM your papers and scorecard.
Order gun,wait 6-18 weeks.

I heard that Military and LEO's don't even have to shoot a match they automatically qualify for the purchase, is this true?

You can find more details at www.ODCMP.com
You may be correct about the LEO's not needing to shoot in a match, I think prior military service exempts you as well.  Check the competition forums for a list of the state associations.  They can get you on the right track.

(CMP is now selling Bushy CMP AR's as well...)

Go to odcmp website, go to rifle sales, and download m1 packet. If you are an leo-documents to show-you do not have shoot. same for military or honorably discharged. I bought one last year and and an going to order another one. these are military rifles, 30-06, service grade or collector grade. they are a bargain.

Waverunner - If there aren't any CMP-affilliated clubs near you, email me and I'll send you an application for the one I belong to.  Only costs $5 to join, and the ID card you'll need to order a Garand comes with the application.

Waverunner,   Orion 7 is run by  Anthony Pucci.  He has a great reputation for quality work and products.  His customer service is great and he stands by his work.  I have done business with him several times and highly recommend him.  All that being said, CMP is still the best deal.

Now doing it VIA New Hampshire (Via Rodent) has interesting "Freedom Roots" to it... I think I will do that myself...

Everybody who wants an application for a CMP-affiliated club send your mailing address to [email protected]  It's "Pemi Valley", they only charge $5, and the ID card that you'll need for the CMP comes right with the application.  Might take me a couple days to get to the club and pick some up, but you should have them by the end of the week.

If the idiots pass 1062, would these rifles have to be demilled?
