Federal Hydra-Shok or Federal Personal Defense.

Practically any hollow point will meet your needs. Since other bullets didn't expand like hollow points they didn't have much knock down power and weren't as effective. So to answer your questions any hollow point will do. I would pick hydrashock though I read a book were a Navy SEAL used hydrashock.

has anyone used Glasers? read that the Sky Marshal's used to use em cause of the massive damage they did to tissue AND cause they wouldnt penetrate a hard material (ie plane, or sheetrock, walls etc...) if not shot straight on. and they're DAMN expensive...(if that means anything) anyone?

Check out Triton. After looking at their slug cutway illustrations, I'm sold. The central lead body is not cast, it is pressed together from 3 pieces then wrapped in a copper jacket. So after it hits, these three huge sections break free from the jacket and travel in different directions, hence the term "Triton". They also load their rounds hotter, like Cor-bon, you'll get the extra velocity too. Check out the Quik-Shok http://www.triton-ammo.com/index1.html

how much velocity does the bullet lose coming out of a 3.8'' barrel instead of a 5'' (like is generally shown on balistic tables?)

I gotta agree with JOHNO. The Aguilla's do unto fruit and veggies like no other hollow point hath done before! Not even the much revered Black Talon or Hydra Shok's.

Annihilator-X explosive tip rounds. Years ago one of the vendors showed them off at the firepower demo. Blowed up a ham real good.
