Previously I posted the letter from a sailor on the USS Winston Churchill to his father.  Well, it turns out that he was an ensign.

Anyway, there has been an update to this letter.  Apparently there were pictures taken of the the German ship as it came along side, with the Stars and Stripes fluttering at half-mast.

If anyone is interested, the reprinted letter and the pictures are located at:

(as a side note, I am going in tomorrow AM for my physical.  if everything checks out, I should be reporting for active duty again within the next 10 days.  GO NAVY!!!)

I have a question for the Navy guys.  While our flags were out half-mast do the Navy ships do the same?

[beer] to the Germans.
