Given how much of a elitist socialist that lockyer is, I think the true intention of seizing these records is to cross reference the sales list with the "assault weapon" registration database so there will be a few more "robbery suspects" chased into gun owner's homes.

http://www.latimes.com/editions/orange/20010228/t000017934.html

Agents from the state attorney general's office seized records from two of California's biggest retail gun stores Tuesday in an investigation of whether customers are being overcharged for private-party gun transfer services, officials said.
Agents searched two locations of B & B Sales, in Westminster and North Hollywood. In California, when private citizens want to sell guns, they must go to licensed gun dealers who broker the transactions. According to law, the dealer must complete background checks on the two parties, then hold the gun for 10 days.
Nathan Barankin, spokesman for state Attorney General Bill Lockyer's office, said B & B Sales regularly overcharges customers for handling firearm transfers and keeps guns for too long. The standard transfer fee is $25.
Lawyers for Robert Kahn, who owns B & B Sales, did not return phone calls Tuesday seeking comment.
Barankin said the retailer charged $50, including a "storage" fee for holding guns for 12 days. The retailers' two locations were "taking advantage of their monopoly on gun transfers," Barankin said.
Tuesday's search was prompted by complaints from consumers. Late last year, Lockyer's Firearms Division fielded complaints that B & B Sales was overcharging customers. Barankin said undercover agents from the division were involved in the investigation and that Kahn was warned that his practices violated the law but that he failed to change them.

DK-Prof,

You understand the problem, but you don't quite get how the state of Kalifornia operates.  They want to control everything, like France.  Look at the recent deal where the utilities are surrendering the power grid to the state.  Can you think of anything the state does efficiently??

I suspect that "protecting the consumer" is just a pretext for grabbing all the transfer records and maybe contacting everyone personally to see if they feel ripped off.  All in the context of the registration thing.  It is a brownshirt act of deniable intimidation.

It started slowly.  Building up speed now.

I'm certain that the AG was concerned about overcharging for guns.  Yeah, right.  Even if B&B did do that, which I doubt, maybe the AG should have thought about that before they drove all the other FFLs out of business.

Definately sounds like they wanted B&Bs customer list.

With the exception of Ed, B&B in westminster is staffed by a bunch of A**holes.

If the are overcharging they screwed up. Part of being a gun dealer in Kali is you agree to do Private Party Transfers for $25.00. The DOJ gets $14.00 and the store keeps $11.00. Not bad for about 10 minutes work.

You just can't argue with the liberal mentality.

Drive most of the FFL holders out of business, and then cry when the survivors charge too much.

You just can't argue with logic like that...

Hmmm.... Part of any elitist society is that the gov't always gets a cut of the action.  I bet that rabidly anti-gun Att. Gen. Lockyer is upset he is not getting a bigger cut.  I will be that if B&B forks over the $12.50, Lockyer will go away, and everybody will be happy.

I don't understand the reason for a "Raid", when these dumb@ss' can walk into B&B and request any information.  This is a real conspiracy.  Maybe they have plans to bankrupt the sporting good stores, and become gun brokers, like the power failure deal.

So am I correct in saying they took "ALL" sales records and not just the private party transfer records?

Sorry, LawDawg, I can't go along with you on this one.  I don't know if they are jerks or not, but the idea of the DOJ getting $14 and the store getting $11 is just plain wrong.  The Store had the burden of initiating the paperwork, supervising the idiots filling it out, answering the questions, filing the paper, storing the paper, providing the person to do this, and being legally and morally responsible for it being being done to the letter -- and I mean to the letter -- of the laws and regulations which govern.  And they are doing this, according to you, for $60.00/hr.  While the DOJ is skimming $84/hour.

Anyone who works for me better be bringing in more than $60/hr.  I have to pay the person, pay FICA, Unemployment, worker's comp, liability, amoritize overhead, equipment, etc.,etc, before I see a penny.  Given the level of accountability associated with these transactions, I can not hire some minimum wage "do you want fries with that" kind of person.  Because if someone screws up, DOJ and ATF are just waiting to RAID YOU and TAKE YOUR STUFF and PUT PEOPLE IN JAIL.  And what do they get besides an entry point into these businesses and the lives of the customers?  WE ARE PAYING THEM MORE THAN THE BUSINESSES ARE ALLOWED TO KEEP!!!  WE ARE BEING FORCED AT GUNPOINT TO FUND OUR OWN DEMISE!

Get the piclture? This is fascism.  And it is escalating.

The "LAW" took guns from them during the North Hollywood bank robbery.

Did they do the transfer at the time?

No but B&B auctioned off those AR`s for a pile of cash.

I've always felt good about B&B, North Hollywood.

I just wonder what consumer would take his complaint about business to a Firearms Division?? I don't think that would have been my first choice. It really does seem like they just wanted the records.

I bought a pair of new Ruger Vaqueros from B&B Westminster last year.  When I saw their sign listing charges for private party transfers, I decided that those were the last purchases I'd make there.  $50 and storage fees PLUS a percentage of the value of the transferred firearm is way too much when Turner's does it for the standard $25 fee only.

DAVE G,
Look again, the fees were not 50.00 plus storage fees and a percentage.Tthe fee was 50.00 including the storage fee.

556 4 life-

Please make it clear to those here that you are, in fact, employed by B&B Sales.  That might put what you're saying in perspective.

Personally, I think $50 per transfer is ALOT, and I'd bet the buyer still has to pay the $14 DROS, right?  Whether it's illegal, I couldn't say.  The AG's office says so, apparently.

BTW, I think people have a choice where they shop, and can pay whatever they choose to.

I disagree.  All of my dealings with B&B have been great.  If they in fact did agree to Kali laws stating a transfer would only cost $25 and charged more then they would be wrong.  BUT, I can't imagine how they could do it for so little... I pay my FFL $20 plus the fees he needs to pay for the LE check and he's not in a high-rent district...  Sure $11 for 10 minutes work doesn't sound bad but it's no home run when you're running a business, paying employees, insurance, rent, etc.

We are not talking about a state to state transfer. we are tallking about two guys walking into the store with a gun and B&B processing the paperwork to put the gun in the buyers name.

Fifty does sound a bit high but a dealer here in New Mexico charges 15% with no maximum which means $120 on a $800 gun for ten minutes work.
Same place that promotes HighPoint 9mm Comp. as being used in the Olympics. (With a straight face, he does it.)

It Is Not About The MONEY.

It like the Power Scam in California, They set the prices and cause the Company to go Bankrupt and then Take over.

Allege handgun control master plan for TOTAL Citizen Dis-Armament/gun confiscation:

IV. _Reduction of Gun Owner Population and Potential Yearly Revenue_

The federal government estimates that around 65-75 Million Americans own guns.  These fees and the licensing requirements would allow us to take guns out of the hands of an estimated 30 million unsuitable or ineligible individuals.  The fees for the remaining qualifying individuals would additionally reduce the number to about 14 million gun owners.  The estimated federal and state revenue from such fee schedules would constitute a minimum of $21.812 Billion Dollars (Worst Case) to an estimated $48,622 Billion (Best Case) annually.  Our eventual goal is to reduce the number of licensees to zero.  The revenue itself can be utilized to achieve this goal.

This is insane.  The DOJ storms in and pretextually siezes records of private party transfers in the name of consumer protection and somehow you idiots end up attacking the gun dealer and defending the DOJ and by implication the entire process.  The fact is "private party transfers" do not really exist in California -- not if this can happen.

You should be storming heaven!  This is why we are going to loose our rights.  The nazis are on the roll and you guys are arguing about the difference between $25 which you should not have to pay and $50 which you should not have to pay.  They know that tightwad gun owners will fight to the death over a nickle but roll over when fascist legislation is passed.

Do you not see that this action is part of a larger strategy on the part of the DOJ???

First they make you register.  Most of you don't.  They they introduce a plan for amnesty buy-back for $100.  Then they grab the records of private party transfers and all the 4473's they can put in the truck. You now know they have the records (in the name of consumer protection). Then you can expect a high profile bust of someone who has not registered his AW's.  They will be able to find just the right person after they run a match between the registration records and what they siezed in the name of consumer protection. Then I guess the sheep will dash madly to the buy-back, dramatically reducing the numbers of owners and increasing the ability of the DOJ to focus on the remaining holdouts.

And I am reading about the difference between $25 and $50 and who is ripping who off.  We are goint to loose.  I really don't care if B&B were the worst group of grifters since the Clintons.  They are not your enemy.  You did not have to deal with them. They did not point a gun at you and say you had to do this or that -- the DOJ did.

Liberty Ship,
AMEN Well put.

Search for 'Delphi Technique', a corrupt version of that is being applied by the KA DOJ on a massive scale.

All of you who chose to register, you will keep your SAWs but your children will not get them.

All of you who chose not to register, your time to decide is coming quickly.

Will the American people be disarmed just as the English and Australians have been.  Canada is in the works and KA is the American proving ground.

It is easy to not live in KA and make judgments.  I am not judging, I am watching.  KA is the proving ground.

KADOJ set us up the bomb.
All your guns are belong to us.
You have no chance to survive make your time.
