Is there a way to tell the difference between a mil issue firearm or one sold to the general public? Would there be a difference in a mil issue beretta and one you can buy at the shop?

Military probably will be parkerized, have high capacity magazines and be marked "Property of U. S. Government" stamped on it.

Tip One: Civilian Berettas will be M92s. Military Berettas will be M9s. Similarly an AR-15 is most likely Civilian, while there is a good chance anything marked M16 would have been military.

There are M9's available to civilians. They come with a nice box, holster and a higher price tag. I think this is what he's asking about.
