Dacon,
I usually don't check out the General Dicussion Forum, but the 1911 topic caught my attention on the front page.
A good friend (fellow Police Officer / SWAT cop)and I both purchased a Springfield TRP back in Feb of 1999 for $800 each. We have both fired numerous thousands of rounds each through our TRPs and neither of us have had a single pistol related malfunction.
Springfield has recently updated the TRP by adding front slide serations, a full length guide rail, ambi thumb safety, mag well, night sights and thus are now charging between $1100 - $1200 locally for the new TRP pistols.
Another officer that I work with purchased one of the new TRPs a couple of months ago and I am impressed with the new version and his TRP has also worked flawlessly.
Springfield at one time had a list of all the custom work that was done to the TRP in their catalog. They have done extensive fitting and internal work to make the pistol more reliable. I don't recall what all the work was, but was extensive you may want to contact Springfield and see if they could provide you with that info. Also it has been my experience that Springfield has outstanding customer service and stand behind their product.
I have seen numerous Springfield Loaded pistols that have had to some tweeking done to them to make them function more reliabily, but from my experiences with the TRP they are good to go out of the box.
My Springfield TRP and my Les Baer Custom Thunder Ranch Special run just as well as my Glocks, and those are the only pistols that I own the two 1911s and the three Glocks. I can't afford to carry a gun that won't run, my life may depend on it. I hope this helps.
