I've gotten several good deals from

Pricewatch.com
tigerdirect.com
mwave.com

I built my computer and computers for other people ordering everything but the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers. I have got everything from pricewatch but the other sites have good prices too. The shipping on the monitor, kebd, mse and spkrs is to high to make it worth it. I buy those things from computer shows.

We just ordered all the parts for a AMD athlon 1.4 GHz, 512 MB DDR, 40 GB 7200 RPM HD,16x10x40 cd-rw, 17" flat tube monitor, Win ME. All for less than $1000.

mwave is pretty good, so is krex.com. Go to pricewatch and find a good price on what you're looking for first.

What are you looking for?

Also, use

http://http://www.resellerratings.com/

to weed out the really lousy mail-order places.

Be aware that some companies have employees who deliberately post fake "this place is wonderful!" messages just to make themselves look good.  One I looked at the other day had 25% "no way in hell would I ever use this company again!" votes, but had lots of glowing reviews.  I figured it out when I read the review texts and noticed that one guy had ordered camera equipment from a shop in NYC on Sept. 11th, had the stuff FedExed to his home, and "got" them -- DESPITE ALL AIRCRAFT BEING GROUNDED, including FedEx -- a couple of days later. . . .

Edited to fix the link.  Oops.

I highly recommend www.techstore.com.  I've ordered a lot from them over the last couple of years, and they've always been wonderful.  Great prices and reasonable shipping fees too.  (Helpful hint: if it says something is backordered, click the in-stock checker and sometimes it'll 'discover' stuff is actually in stock)

If you're looking for older or odd stuff, try www.compgeeks.com.

Also a second on resellerratings.com.  Invaluable.  Watch out on Pricewatch.  Some of those guys listed are not too reputable.  Check them out before you buy.  Also watch for unreasonable shipping fees.

One of the engineers at work just told me about Price Watch. He says he has used them many times with good results.
