Quoted: I am going to take advantage of the magazine deals Springfield offers with their new 1911 .45's. My question is on capacity and size. I see they have 10rnd mags. How far do these stick out of the bottom of the grip frame? How about the 8rnd'ers? Pics anyone? The Wilson Bereaucrat 10rd mags sitck one one inch, most 8 rounders fit flush, though I find that the Mec-Gar style magazine plates allow you to remove the baseplate FAR more easily, and clean them out. Mec-Gar, Wilson, and Les Baer all make excellent magazines, I prefer Mec-Gar for their solid construction, and my great experience with their 8 round magazines. Juggernaut |

What size is your pistol?
The best magazines I've ever used for Officer's, or Commander sized guns are the 7 round ones made by Shooting Star, with [GASP!!!] Wilson a close 2nd. Seven round McCormick magazines are the best "100%ers" for IDPA (adequate load-out). My favorite mags for full sized guns in order are (The BB) Wilson, Shooting Star, McCormick, Mec-Gar & Kimber (Kimber mags are usually Shooting Star, but the notch is cut a little different, & they don't reliably lock the slide back on some guns). Plenty of people like the eight rounders but I always use 7s in full size 1911s. I get more FTF(eed)s with the 8s (Got a ton of Wilson 8 rounders, but I only load 7). Well, that's been my experience anyway. 2¢ |
