Bayonet on shorty

Could someone tell me the correct way (if there is one) to install a bayonet on a 16 inch AR? There is more barrel between the lug and flash hider than on a 20 inch. Thank you kindly -Gump

i've never tried it but when i bought my 16" pre ban the guy told me it'd be pointless cuz the blade wouldnt protrude(sp? the spell checked wont load) past the end of the barrel. he said it would on a 14.5" though.

Yeah NO SHIT. Why is the lug even there?

Good thing Bill CLinton protected us by outlawing them. Otherwise we could put a really short knife behind a long barrel.

I think you could install a (their words)Bushmaster Shorty Look Flash Suppressor w/ internal threads to allow this suppressor to thread onto the barrel-giving your gun a shorty look w/o sacrificing accuracy. 5" overall length. For standard bbls part #MMT-0019 $14.95. For heavy bbls part #9349SFSH $19.95.

If you try it and it works let me know.

It fits fine on my Oly CAR, but it's still kind of goofy loooking. I think I'd be better off holding in my hand, longer reach that way.

one of the m8 bayonets should protrude about three or four inches past the end of the hider. not sure how effective it would be...and it looks out of place.

maybe you could machine some type of "bayonet block" to extend the handle/lug a bit?

1)Rock River Arms has Elite LE tactical uppers that will handle bayo better if you are so inclined.

2)older style bayo's extend a little farther on the 16" than the new bowie blade bayo's. CDNN has some for $25. These are manufactured in Germany by Soligen. I bought 2 at a recent gunshow. Very nice! Definitely worth the extra cash.

3)4" of blade is better than none. You also have the exposed blade underneath the weapon.

You need to mount a Bayonet Lug Adapter to it.

It won't fit on my 16" PWA HBAR.

It will on my factory Colt M16A2 carbine (M4 carbine 14.5").

At least that is what I have experienced. Better off transitioning to your sidearm, anyway.

The bayo lug is put there on the 16" simply since all the front sights are taken from the same bin! It is a useless appendage on a 16" barrel (sort of like the human appendix) The 14 1/2" barrel solves all the problems of gas pressure and bayo mounting.
