As much as we love our proven equipment and combat srategies, eventually the armed forces will modernize it's equipment. History shows that the military grunt always had reservations about adopting something new. The men who were issued 1903 Springfields swore by them and on up to the Garand, M14,and M16, the military always went through a period of trail and error. It was difficult for the veteran to accept a new weapon when his tried and true weapon was just fine the way it was. That being said......I like my M16!!!What is this OICW crap they are trying to sell us? I can see some great benefit coming from the gear that wgunn was referring to. I also wonder if it is modular. It would be better if it is modular, rather than an all or none system. Even with great advances in equipment, I agree that the individual must be trained first to fight with nothing but traditional equipment, and once a high level of Low-Tech proficiency is reached, train them with the high tech gear.
