Exactly.
Your experiences are all military. Bases, military installations, etc. Of course ID is needed.
We are talking about buying a box of .22lr at WalMart. A six pack @ the Zip and Go, ID at a turn pike or toll bridge. Mailing a package at the Post Office for God sake.
Scenario:
Blue lights. Pullover. Roll down window.
Civ " hello officer"
Officer: "DL and National ID. please. do you know why I pulled you over?"
Civ: "Yeah, I was going a little fast."
Officer "I have you at 45 in a 35. Wait here, turn pff your engine"
Leaves. Comes back
Officer:" I show you mailed a package at the PO about 30 minutes ago. You were going pretty good, you'd be a lot farther at that speed by now. Where have you been since then?"
Civ. " i stopped for a cheeseburger."
Officer: " Did you pay cash."
Civ: " Yes."
Officer: "Drive thru?"
Civ: " Yes"
Officer: " I don't see any wrappers."
Civ:" I ate in the parking lot."
Officer: "I see. Why would you go throught the Drive thru and eat in the lot? Why not go in?"
Civ: "I don't know. Didn't feel like it."
Officer: " OK, here is you citation, appeart in court....."
Does this sound like a conversation you want to have. Do you wan tto have to account for every detail of you life on demand? Imagine if you have paid by Credit Card. The conversation might have ended:
Officer: "Enjoy your hot cherry pie? I really like those. Have a good day."
Chilling.
