forgot to mention, this has been rebarreled?? to 308 from 30.06. DOn;t know when or by whom.

There's no such thing as a M1 Tanker. The Army experimented with a short barrel version of the M1 Garand and it was a disaster. It wasn't produced.

I saw many "Tanker Garands" but they were all regular M1s reworked.

Actuallly, it has a much better chance of being functional as a 308, rather than a 30-06. There are all sorts of problems related to making a short M1 Garand.
Quite a bit depends on who did the conversion. If you have to have it, make sure that it comes with some sort of guarantee that it will actually work. |

what's been said is good info. Assumong a functional rifle, buy a flash suppressor as the muzzle flash will be, shall we say. interesting at night. Best is the vortex, by Smith Enterprises. You can get them cheaper if you look.
