I ordered 8400 rounds of South African from AIM last monday and received it friday.With shipping it came out to 11.5 cents a round.

It's the exact opposite of what everybody thought the shortages would be, should there  ever be a downturn in the economy or a major dislocation of society.

To wit: .223 is supposedly getting hard to find, either due to demand from civilians or from military snapping it up (even SA milsurp .223??), BUT Russian ammo is everywhere up here- I wish now I had got an AK or something- 7.62 x 39 is stacked to the ceilings in some shops, but .223 is going out the door like gangbusters. The supply from Russia is not yet in danger of drying up. Whodathunkit?

But seriously, how much of this ".223 shortage" is for real and how much of it is salesmanship (BS)?

Monday,I called my regular ammo supplier and inquired about the SA 223.He was sold out and also out of IMI SS109 and he had no idea when he would be able to get more.I then called AIM only to find out,they too had sold out of SS109 but they still had some SA 223 but it was going fast.My regular supplier told me that the US military calibers were selling out all over the Country and that the US manufacturers would be filling GOVT. contracts.Surplus Ammo such as South African,would depend on the demand of their home Military.

No.  The military is NOT requsitioning civilian ammo.  This is what we call a scam by certain retailers to inflate their prices.
