"Pending written confirmation, Camford, a Massachusetts wholesaler, is reporting that ammunition in calibers .223 Remington, .45 ACP, .40 S&W, and 9 mm are now dedicated to government purchase until (roughly) 2004."

How about some help in confirmations?  Is this for just this wholesaler or will others be affected?

They're right. Buy as much as you can from that particular dealer. In fact, ask that dealer if they have anything else they think you should buy. Believe everything they say - question nothing.

A local gun shop told me the same story, he only mentioned .223's.  I figured he was only trying to sell ammo and push the price up.

Sounds like B.S. 45's ok but 40 S&W...WTF? Did'nt know the military had started using it enough to cause a shortage. [uzi]

Lots of rumors about ammo out there, I do look for the price to go up just because of the scare and the number of people hoarding. Buy what you think you will need for SHTF, then add 1000 rounds to that and you will be ok, don't pay high prices yet, too many honest sellers out there. Try www.ammoman.com and many others.

I agree with Thistle.  The fact that .40 S&W is on the list reeks of suspicion.
