On September 11, 2001 I witnessed the power contained in the darkest recesses of mankind’s soul. I always knew that man was capable of great acts of barbarism and hatred, I have read the accounts of Hitler and the Third Reich, of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, but I have never witnessed it first hand.
On September 11, 2001 you forever changed the character of our nation. You have taken a philanthropic and accepting people and made them weary of other nations. You have distilled the melting pot, segregating and turning Americans of different races against one another. You have attempted to sow fear. In many ways you have succeeded in your efforts. You caused great loss of life and much needless suffering. However, ultimately you have failed.
On September 11, 2001 you steeled our resolve. For us, terrorism in the United States was an aberration. Oklahoma City was the working of a madman, one of our own, who ultimately was brought to justice. The 1993 attack on the World Trade Center was a failure, one we should have admittedly learned more from. No, terrorism was something that happened in somebody else’s country, the result of somebody else’s conflict. We have now tasted the tears that so many others have been forced to drink at your hands. You have showed us the evil that exists within our world and you have made it our mission to exterminate it.
You see, the American people are like the domesticated wolves that have been raised in a civilized setting since they were pups. We have known peace and prosperity, love and support. We have learned to overcome our differences through peaceful means because we knew down deep that we were safe, and we needn’t resort to violence to settle disputes. How foolish were you to make us taste our own blood? No matter how civilized we are, there exists an animal instinct within us. You have drawn it out. You have only yourself to blame for our feral response.
Who am I? Why should my words matter to you? My name is not George Bush or Richard Cheney. It is not George Pataki or Rudolph Giuliani. I am not powerful, there is no military or police force that marches to my orders. I am the man behind you at the grocery store. I am the woman walking her dog down your street. I am one of 260 million Americans who are committed to your abject destruction. President Bush and Vice-president Cheney, Governor Pataki and Mayor Giuliani are only powerful because we as Americans give them our support. Fear their words, for they speak for us. Fear us, because we refuse to fear you. Prepare to die, for we are prepared to as well, in order to rid the world of the evil you personify.
