Earlier on Friday, Congress, with only one dissenting vote -- California Rep. Barbara Lee -- passed a measure granting the president the authority to use force against those responsible for the attacks

Can someone in California conatc her office and determine WHY she doesn't want to protect America?  Recall her ass!

Perhaps she is a member of Osama Bin Laden's group? Has she ever had a "Background Check"???
I don't think that Background Checks are done on members of Congress???

We get scrutinized more for purchasing a firearm than most elected official's have to go through for holding office.

"With a solitary California congresswoman voting in opposition, Congress also voted to let President Bush exercise "all necessary and appropriate force" against the terrorists, their sponsors and their protectors. "

"The spending measure was approved 96-0 by the Senate and 422-0 by the House"

"The resolution authorizing the use of military force was swiftly approved 98-0 by the Senate. The House's 420-1 vote came after nearly five hours of debate that mixed solemn acknowledgments of sacrifices ahead with condemnations of the terrorists and their supporters. "

Geez, what do you guys expect? She has Dellums district. Much of this district is shared at the state level with Perata. This includes the original peoples republic of Berkeley.

If you ever had the displeasure of listening to her speak, you will recognize that she is the product of afirmative action. I doubt she had the grades to get into post-graduate UCB otherwise.

She is only the thin end of the wedge. As the weeks go by, people like her will become more confident & vocal.  They'll talk about the need to build coalitions. About how the US must not behave like a "rogue nation" and the need to advance the "peace process", whatever that is.

MY personal opinion, the bitch is entitled to her own opinion, but I sure wouldn't vote for her again, if she were my rep.

I knew the commie rep was a democrap (surprise) was from Kalifornia and was a woman.  I was gonna guess it was our "friend" Maxine Waters.  I have never heard of this bitch Lee.  I have now.

Go figure. What did you expect from her anyway?
At least she had the guts to do what her heart told her was the right thing to do.
I don't agree with how she voted. How many scumbag liberals just went along with the majority just to gain favor? I have less repect for them than for her. Just wait untill we start the fight. I'll bet you alot of Folks who support action now will change their minds.
Its going to be a hell of mess and we must not lose our resolve to finish what we start.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Nope, can't do that, not to a U.S. Congressman.  Once they are elected, there is no way to involuntarily to get rid of them.

Los Angeles Times: Maverick Democrat is Lone Dissenter in House Vote

Maverick Democrat is Lone Dissenter in House Vote
Rep. Barbara Lee is known for swimming against the tide. "Military action is a
one dimensional reaction to a multi-dimensional problem," she says.
RICHARD SIMON
Times Staff Writer

September 15 2001

WASHINGTON -- One by one, members of the House--virtually all wearing red, white
and blue ribbons--stood up Friday night to voice their full support for granting
President Bush authority to use "all necessary and appropriate force" against
those responsible for the deadliest terrorist assault in U.S. history.

Except for Rep. Barbara Lee, a liberal Democrat from Oakland, who opposed the
resolution that earlier in the day passed the Senate unanimously. The House
approved the measure, 420 to 1.

"Let's step back for a moment and think through the implications of our action
today so that it does not spiral out of control," Lee told her colleagues in
explaining her decision.

Military action will not prevent terrorism, she asserted. "This is a very
complex issue," she explained later in an interview. "Military action is a one
dimensional reaction to a multi-dimensional problem."

For the little-known Lee, a protege of the better-known but similarly
iconoclastic ex-Rep. Ronald Dellums (D-Oakland), it was not the first time she
had swam against a strong tide. She was the lone dissenter in the 424-1 House
vote in 1999 to authorize the bombing of Serbia.

Lee said Friday's vote was the toughest of her political career.

After agonizing, she said she came to her decision earlier in the day while
attending the memorial service at the National Cathedral for the victims of
Tuesday's attacks.

"As a member of the clergy so eloquently said, 'As we act, let us not become the
evil that we deplore,'" she said.

Lee, 55, daughter of a retired Army officer, said she hopes her colleagues and
constituents understand her vote. "I think people understand votes of
conscience," she said.

Lee worked for Dellums from 11 years before winning election to the state
Assembly in 1990 and state Senate in 1996. When Dellums retired, she won the
seat in 1998.

"Only the most foolish or the most callous would not understand the grief that
has gripped our people and millions across the world," she said in her House
speech. But she added, "Some of us must urge the use of restraint" in responding
to the terrorism.

I do respect her right of conscience, and I am sympathetic to her warning...

Still, if her conscience could not allow her to support the measure, the correct action at this time would have been simply to abstain.  She absolutely should not have voted against the measure.

I hope the media will give due attention to calls for her resignation.

She may be entitled to her opinion, and she may have voted with her heart, but that is not her reason for being in public service.  She is there to vote for both what is best for, and the will of the people, not herself.  If she voted based on her own emotions, then she's not doing the job that her constituents voted her in to do. Her vote is not only a reflection of herself, but also a reflection of her constituents.  And if I was one of her constituents, she'd have a flaming nastygram sitting on her fax machine right now. Time for Californians to kick her to the curb.

You couldn't be more wrong!

As an "elected" official, her personal opinion shouldn't mean squat...  Her vote should be representative of her constituents.

I would comment on this @#$%^ but I would be labeled a racist as many of us have been for revealing our feelings toward the people of lands who have harbored terrorist. Funny how things can be twisted. I have read that during WW2 all Germans were Nazi's and we hated all of them. What were we called then? My point is that all the countries who sponsor these acts should be destroyed......and I don't care who they are, seems to be a lot of arrest in the Netherlands. I am just mad as hell and I want my pound of flesh. Sorry if I hurt some feelings
If you can't stand the fire get out of the kitchen!!!

I would like to hear for some of the people she represents in KALIFORNIA. I know they are as proud of her as we in Arkansas are of KLINTON.
Everyone should either email or write this traitor. I would gladly pitch in a few bucks to buy her a ticket to wherever she thinks is a better, safer place, say somewhere in Africa or the Middle East. I'm sure they would welcome her.

In case this vote comes as a surprise, check out her website.  This is
just a sample of what she herself posts there.

"Lee is also a leader in the effort to increase humanitarian support for the
Cuban people and overturn the embargo against Cuba.
Likewise, Lee was one of only five U.S. Representatives to vote against a
resolution supporting the December 1998 bombing of
Iraq and the only Member of Congress to vote against a March 24, 1999
resolution regarding the commitment of troops to
Kosovo, votes which have been deemed "courageous" by her constituents and
by peace activists nationwide."

Her main activities in Congress involve actively seeking money for public
housing, free everything for minorities, and AIDS relief.  This incredible
commie bitch sits on, of all things now, the Foreign Relations Committee.
Yeah, Barbara is truly a piece of work.
