The attack was on US soil, against civilians. With the Military preparing for an extended campaign, and national guard units being prepared for activation, wouldn't this be a good time for the states to begin "regulating" their civilian militia's?
The professional Military and police forces will become pre-occupied with hunting terrorists and managing crisis situations. The police will become less available to respond to everyday crimes and emergencies. IF REGULATED, the militia could be called on to help with crowd control, guarding supplies, etc.. This should be considered on a local level first (through deputizing citizens), then at the state level (though commissioning of officers).
"Militia" carries a negative connotation to many, but it could come to be a source of security and relief in troubled times. What do you all think about petitioning our local and state officials to take the initial steps to begin regulating a formal militia?
