and what purpose will they have?
Link Posted: 9/13/2001 6:27:33 PM EDT
It seems like it will be a good way for the gov to track our movements. When you fly you will have to present National ID.
Link Posted: 9/13/2001 6:42:06 PM EDT
You don't have yours? Hee hee just wanted to beat Imbroglio to it.
Link Posted: 9/13/2001 6:55:08 PM EDT
How about a GPS tracking unit attached to the ID and inserted in the base of our necks at birth??
Link Posted: 9/13/2001 7:03:14 PM EDT
If enough of us refuse to get one, what can they do? I'm not getting one, and will gladly say, "lock me up." I'm not giving up one damned bit of liberty for any supposed security. Every time some national emergency comes up, there will be those liberals in power who jump at the chance to do what they would never, under normal circumstances, be able to do. This is one of those times. Be just as watchful of what they do in DC as what the enemy does.

National ID cards are what come right before a tatoo on your forearm. Their purpose is to make sure you are on the right train to the concentration camp.

I thought the ss# was the national id card.

When the SS system was first created people voiced the same concerns that it would become a national id card, so it was written into law that it would never be used for identification. In effect it is illegally being required for identification outside of SS.

If you can find a pre-ban SS card (IIRC 1972 or before) it is printed right on the face of the card "NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION". I can't find the damn link but here are others: www.geocities.com/capitolhill/lobby/3656/ssnasid.html www.networkusa.org/fingerprint/page6/fp-ssnfaq.htm www.patriot.org/articles10.htm

[blue]If you have renewed your drivers license, you are already in the system. They "Require" the ssn now for your license. I had mine off for awhile, but had to give it to get my new one. Any way you look at it, it sucks. 1974 privacy act states that the SSN is for Social Security purposes only and even asking for it for another purpose is a $1,000.00 fine. Our government can make up its' laws as they go tho. Hell even the phone co. asks for it now, for ID purposes only sir! Believe me they have our number! Hold Hard[/blue]

Actually VA has done away this SSN on drivers licence.

Shortly after the terrorist attack Tuesday, the media sponsored several people who stated "We have too much freedom as Americans. The government needs to be able to track where we go and keep tabs on us." This was immediately followed by "What's needed is a National ID system." Last night, the Senate Minority Leader furthered these comments and stated these cards need to be "smart cards" (no further explanation) and that they should contain more information than driver's licenses. He mentioned there were some minor civil liberties concerns, but we would have to overcome those in the name of National Security. Have no doubt what the intent of this is people. Think you just won't get one? Don't. Grow your own food, keep your money in a shoebox, don't buy a car or get a license, etc. etc. This is how they will get us. I don't want a SSN. Try to get a job, pay taxes, buy a car, open a savings account, etc. without one. They will integrate bank accounts, medical and insurance records and drivers' licenses with this "smart card." Without it, you can't get these things. There will be a small movement that begins bartering and self-sufficiency, but the gov't doesn't take kindly to people not paying 2/3 of their income in taxes and life will be hard for these people. I will resist, too, but they will make it nearly impossible to. VTHokieShooter - Va. changed their options to include a random or SSN on your driver's license because of identity theft. It was mostly done because of the burden on the State of financial companies when identity theft occurs. Unfortunately, it's not as honorable as you may have thought. This is the mark of the beast. Religious or not, you have to see the similarities. We've known it was coming for decades. It's out in the open now. Black Fox

"Vour Paperz Pleezz" My hope is that many will see the folly in this... Prisinors, you know, the guys that are supposed to be totally secured, can get drugs and weapons. I hope that most will see as just furthering a false sense of security. Life is a punch/counterpunch game.
Link Posted: 9/14/2001 5:16:22 AM EDT
You mean this idea came from Trent Lott? When will people figure out that security does not equal safe. Northern Ireland, Israel and others have over kill and look at the killing. We need a heavily armed America because an armed America makes respectful citizens. O/T My wife and I got into an intense argument over liberty vs security. She was all up on restricting liberty ex. gun ownership, travel and privacy. I shocked her when I said that life isn't worth living if you don't have freedom. My friends, this is a turning point in American life. Will we rise to the challenge of promoting liberty and freedom for ALL? We are a special country, no other nation in the world has accomplished what we have. Will we maintain this identity?
Link Posted: 9/14/2001 7:02:09 AM EDT
Actually, VTHokieShooter, it was Richard Gephart. I understand since a member resigned the Democratic party the Dems are officially a minority again. I could be wrong, because they're showing Lott as the minority leader again. Sorry - I try to watch as very little of politics as I can get by with. I think we are witnessing dangerous times. The media (even Fox) is confusing the concepts of Liberty/Freedom and convenience. They speak of giving up our Freedoms and waiting an extra hour at the airport. They speak of giving up conveniences and carrying National ID's and being more subject to search. This is VERY WRONG!! I understand we will give up conveniences - a little longer at airports, etc. You are not guaranteed the Freedom from delays or inconveniences. You ARE guaranteed RKBA, Freedom from unreasonable search & seizure, etc. I believe this whole situation can lead to great disaster - both with foreign powers' retribution and the furtherment of socialist ideals in our Country. Either could lead to further life-changing events for most of us. Black Fox

Isn't the Mark of the Beast an International one? It would eventually need international status...maybe through the UN? Of course, if they can pull it off here, they can do it anywhere.

Very simple just don’t get the card. If we are going to be criminals for not getting the ID card then I say we act like criminals. If you can not get a job and earn money legally without the ID card then you use the muzzle of your gun to get the money you need to survive. If you have to show your card when a cop asks you and you don’t have the card you just shoot the cop, before he has the chance to arrest or shoot you. And what if you and your family are hungry because of not having this Card, do you let your family starve or do you get food for your family by whatever means necessary even if that means breaking the law and stealing the food with the use of your rifle, pistol, knife or whatever and not letting anyone stop you. So if the law says you must have the ID card then those of us who value freedom must band together and become rebels and fight for freedom. We need to band together like some rebels did in one of Stallone’s movies where most of the people were not free and the freedom loving rebels lived underground and fought for their rights. Another thing we need to think about is the fact that the Digital Angel chip is available and maybe this ID Card will not be a card but will be a chip that will be inserted in the hand, and this my friends is the mark of the beast, which I will never accept. And for those of you who believe that I must be crazy for suggesting that we in effect become criminals and cop killers I say to you, think about what happened during WWII when a member of the resistance was stopped by a lone German soldier if he had the chance he killed the soldier before the soldier either killed him or arrested him and turned him in to the Gestapo. Please do not think for a second that if we are required to carry a National ID Card that we will still be free, for we will not be free but will be slaves of a Police State, and as I see it even worse, we will have received the mark of the beast. Some people on this forum will still say I am wrong about the use of violence and to you I say what if our government turned into the Nazi government and did as the Nazi government did and require that all Jews be arrested and anyone who helped a Jew was a criminal. Should I do the legal thing and turn my Jewish neighbor in or should I hide my neighbor and if necessary defend his life with deadly force. And if I was a Jew should I let myself be tattooed and wear the star of David or should I defy the law and refuse to be tattooed and wear the star and if a Nazi policeman was going to arrest me because I did not wear the star should I peacefully go with him or should I fight and defend my life and rights even if I had to kill him. I am not some kill crazy wacko I am just a person who will not give in to tyranny and is willing to fight for what he believes. And if we give in to this ID Card then we might as well give up the rest of our rights and freedoms. VINCE AUT MORIRE (Conquer or Die)

Un-facking-constitutional. Internal passports were a feature of apartheid South Africa AND of the Soviet Union. Bastards.

OK WTF is a drivers license used for?
Link Posted: 9/14/2001 7:56:01 PM EDT
Not trying to cause a ruckus, but I've worked in several Latin American countries that require citizens to have a national ID card, normally called a "cedula de identidad". It's used, well, like a national ID card. They generally ID them with a description, DOB, and place of birth as a citizen of that nation, period. Sorta a primary means of ID when someone from the gov, cops or any branch or organization needs to see ID. We generally present a license or mil ID or something with a photo; they present a license or anything, and then get asked to see their cedula if the person is still curious. For example, in Central America, they have a problem with illegals--cedula's help ID who's a citizen and who isn't. Like any document, including passports, there is a lucrative trade in false cedulas. In one country I worked in it was known that fake ones could bought for a price. Not saying that a national ID could not somehow be abused, but in the several countries I've worked in that uses them, I've not seen it happen. It they want to control citizens they ain't real subtle about it down there; cedula or no cedula. To tell the truth, I can't see how a national ID could be used against the populace here; as noted by many above, most of us already have more than enough info on record with the gov. Ain't many of us that aren't in the records starting with a birth certificate and then on up. I figure for 25 years I carried and used a Military ID to identify myself, and still do as a retired guy--and proudly I would add. I also use my license or my CCL, depending. When I travel overseas, I use my passport with that big eagle and United States of America on the cover of it--and proudly I would add. My opinion on issue of National ID cards? May have some utility, but hard to quantify. Good forgeries will be done by well funded bad guys, and hard to tell from real ones without expensive high tech equipment that will not be used generally and certainly not at airline counters. Hell, the current photo ID check at the counter is a joke. Why would a national ID card check be any better? Might be OK to help ID illegal aliens who can't afford a good false one. Will they be used to control the population? Personal opinion is no, not needed. So in wrap-up; good use, to a degree; bad use, naw; just another card to lose. My personal opinion, got way too long, sorry. Stay safe--

From those who have done research, drivers licenses were only supposed to be issued to people driving for commercial use. Now much like the SS# it has mutated into something that was never meant to be.
