My fiance wants to travel 200 miles from home this weekend for a cancer survivors reunion near Rochester, NY.  I originally encouraged her to attend this event because it is a great support structure for her that I can't provide.  However, given how questionable things are right now I'm pretty uneasy about her going.  I can't attend with her so going along is not an option.  I receive reports from our intel people (NYS special agents) that random violence IS happening even though the media is not reporting it.

I can't tell her she can't go and I'm far from thinking objectively about this. Am I overreacting?  How would you convince her not to go if you were in my place?

Sorry, I've just lived for too long only having to think about me.  Now I have her to worry about too.

Its not an issue of LETTING her go.  She is a grown woman and can make that decision on her own.  I understand what you are saying and in a way I agree.  I was a strong advocate of our remaining open for business on tuesday - essential personnel only, and I strongly recommended that we have all staff back Wednesday.  I recommended that a fundraiser go forward last night for the reasons you said.  But in my mind, this is different.  This is an attractive woman traveling alone over a fairly great distance on a weekend when I believe in my heart of hearts things will happen.  Call it a premonition, and I pray I am wrong, but I don't feel good about this.

No, its female cancer survivors only.  If that was an option I would have seized upon it right away.  She knows how I feel so I guess I have to let her reach whatever decision she is going to.  I don't tell her what to do, EVER, not since I taught her how to shoot ;).

First, she wouldn't carry one of my guns, even if it were legal and it ISN'T!

Second, if she did carry one and got caught she would be arrested and I might be as well.  At the very least, my permit would be revoked.

I'd love to go with her but it wouldn't do much good.  I couldn't stay with her at the camp, so there isn't much purpose in my going.  Besides, when it comes down to it I prefer to be close to home and all the ummm COMFORTS of an AR15.com member's home.
