OK, along the lines of threads which have been beaten to death, I pose this question.... You have up to $2000 with which to buy just ONE handgun to serve you in a SHTF situation. Keeping in mind availability of...ammo, spare parts and the need of the weapon to be durable, accurate and reliable. I'll start by choosing my HK usp full size in .45 I think it only lacks in one area...spare parts availability. However, being that it is a HK, you probably would never need any.[:D] Sooooo, what will it be ??? remember, your life and the lives of those you love will depend on this choice !!! SPECTRE out... AR-15 pistol in .223

I choose a Sig P220.

Thunder Five!!! .410 to kill small game to survive. I think it also shoots some kind of huge round like the 45/70.

Good call, Spectre... I'd be right behind you with the full size USP .45... but I want the socom model with the suppressor. You never know, you might need to be sneaky. This'd eat up all my $2000, save for but a few boxes worth of ammo, but then how much handgun ammo do you think you need? -RyanG [flag]

a piece of bamboo, some salt peter, charcoal and some diamonds all of which just happened to be laying around as the lizard guy is about to kill me. Sorry, J. Tiberius Kirk style flashback. Miller And that would leave me $2000 bucks for another FAL and a bunch of ammo

Glock 17, with plus2 bases, and night sights. 19 rounds per mag. Accurate. Most plentiful ammo (9mm) Your enemies will probably be carrying M9's, or MP5's, and you can scavenge. Nothing is more durable, lightweight, or has this capacity in such a small package. Parts are all over the place. Take the $1300 you have leftover and get a nice AR M4gery, decked.

That's a lotta money, normally I'd go with a P7M8, but for SHTF... USP9F with CCFA tact. bbl, trijicons, expert mag well with 18rd hicaps, gemtech can, and a surefire millenium light. Yeah, that's a lotta do-dads, but I wouldn't have all that crap hanging off my gun at one time...

a supressed 22

My intention was to have a amount large enough so as to include the "proud-n-pricey" such as baer,wilson,brown,etc.etc.

My Glock 19! The USP is a super gun and I always was a 1911 fan but I just fell in love with the Glock trigger. It's smooth, fast and with the right ammo 9mm can still do the job,I'll just need to take all my ammo in with me. [:D]

PISTOL in a SHTF scenario?!!! No thanks, with the $2000 I would buy a plane ticket to someplace where I wouldn't have to rely on a pistol for a SHTF scenario.

Briley Signature series, Glock 18, USP tactical w/ suppressor, P7M10 w/ suppressor, USP Match, USP Expert, Lots of mags for whatever gun you get Ice

For $2,000 when the s#$t hits the fan, I will opt for the best thing around a LEO H&K G3.

I choose a Glock 23 (midsize .40) and with the extra $$ I purchase a 9mm conversion barrel, .357 Sig barrel and .22 conversion kit. The rest of the $$ goes for mags and very few spare parts. The combo above gives me a gun that is very popular in multiple calibers. I'd have multiple mag choices - I can use mid-size or full size hi-caps and they can even all be interchangeable except for the .22 kit. Only a few spare parts would be needed.

a good custom tuned .45 like my Wilson Combat [moon]

FN Five-Seven. With lotsa mags and ammo.

Les Baer TR 1911 hands down! Nothing like a 230 grain lead sandwich, and a gun that goes bang every single time.

Good call. What he said. (Can you do this w/ $2k?)

My WW2-vintage Colt 1911 .45. HKs are far overpriced for what you get. Glocks are great, I just don't like the grip angle. For $2000? Uzi, never leave home without it. "Do what you will, just leave me the hell out of it."

Based on it having to be a handgun, I would take a 1911, probably a Springfield or a Kimber. and buy mags and ammo with the rest. re: alot of parts are interchangable with other 1911's can be tore down quickley, reasonably accurate, pleanty of energy at 25 & 50 yards. Most important, I am comfortable with one and can shoot them fairly well considering I don't have one right now, I have shot some that friends have and did decent with their hardball guns [uzi]

10 mg of Norcuron (vecuronium).

good 1911 45ACP, you don't need 2 grand for this. Use the 45 as a backup weapon. Then also get a 12 guage pump and use it first.
