I think the Miata is the better car, but man does that thing bring back 54 Corvette and 50's Jaguar xkss racer in one body. Looks to me like one designer did the whole thing.

Is the Turbo out yet. I may have to get my ass to a Pontiac dealership and test drive that bad boy. If it is anything like a Miata I would have to use a shoe horn to get in. I could barely fit in one when I was 12.

it looks great from the rear, the front looks like a wide BMW Z4 with a short hood.

if they changed the front it would be great.

yes, there is another supercharged model coming, but remember it's GM and might be a long time off. They still have a 5 speed in this car in 2006.  I am surprised it has disc brakes all the way around. GM beancounters just stifle the completion of some cars.

Saw one last month at the local Steak and Shake in Anderson, Indiana.
Not bad, but limited appeal, I figure.

I've seen several and they are nice looking and affordable...GM should have been doing this sort of thing 15 years ago before or shortly after the Miata revived that segment

I like the Sky from Saturn much better.  Same car, different front end.

If I wasn't happy with my camaro, I'd get a Sky Redline and play with boost settings.

MX5 is available with 6 speed manual, or 6 speed auto.... Solstice just 5 speed manual and some kind of automatic. Doubtful it's even a 5 speed automatic.

The MX5 has paddle wheel shifters for the auto.

Any vehicle that weighs 3000lbs with a low torque 4 cyl will be gutless.
V-6 or Turbo 4 would do it.

I'm 6'3" and 300# and I've had a Miata for over 15 years now (granted, I was 80# lighter when I first bought it ).

I still drive it at least once a week.

FWIW, I've heard the Solstice is a little less forgiving of height than the Miata...

For the 'not enough power' people, the fun of that car is not in straight accelleration, it's in taking turns and weaving unlike any 'American muscle car' could ever handle.

I think they're a great idea, and I would be tempted to pick up a used one in a few years.

What's on my mind now would be a used Miata, and doing this body kit:

Amen.  Different tools (each with its merits) for different jobs (ditto).

Sliding an "underpowered" little roadster through the twisties at/near full throttle can be a LOT of fun...

I sat in one and I thought they were nice but I am still undecided. I would rather take my muscle car and do some upgrades to the suspension to make it a corner carver and have straight line acceleration.

Saw the pre-production model at the 2004 Auto Show in Philly.  You will note that the "real" Solstice doesn't have the exhaust you can see in this photo I took:

There was an article in C&D about some outfit that is stuffing the Corvette V8 into the Solstice.    It's a cool idea but for $51k you could buy a Vette convertible.

I think getting a car like that, getting a little more power out of it... would be better (and cheaper) than what I'd really want to do: build a nice 72(ish) Porsche 911 RS clone and get buttloads of power out of it.

A little, well balanced roadster would be hella fun to throw around at a track.   IIRC, the Solstice/Sky has a near 50/50 weight distribution, so it should handle pretty dang well.

And yeah, I've heard of 150hp Porsches stomping on cars with 3x as much power on twisty tracks.

Remember:  Straight tracks are for fast cars.  Twisty tracks are for fast drivers.

262 hp w/ 240ish ft-lbs of torque with stock turbo.  At 2800 lbs.

I figure you can probably get 300 hp with the right mods.

In a small rwd package these will be quick cars.
