Sutherland signs new three year deal as talk of film spin off continues.
by Eric Goldman
April 10, 2006 - With 24 achieving some of the best ratings and press it's ever experienced, Variety is reporting that star Kiefer Sutherland has signed a new deal that keeps Jack Bauer racing against the clock for three more seasons.
The three season extension on 24 is just part of the deal between Sutherland and 20 Century Fox TV. Sutherland will also set up a production company on the Fox lot with a two-year development deal, and will become an executive producer on 24 as of next season (Sutherland currently has a co-executive producer credit). 24 is now in it's 5th season, with Sutherland's deal keeping him signed through season eight in 2009.
There has been some talk of a 24/Jack Bauer feature film, and Sutherland says that's still a possibility; the film could possibly shoot in spring 2007, between the sixth and seventh seasons of the series.
While exact details weren't divulged, the new deal is expected to make Sutherland among the highest paid actors on television. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the acting portion of the deal alone could bring Sutherland more then $40 million for the next three seasons.
