A friend and I went to our local outdoor range to shoot this afternoon.
We started on a range on the other side of a 5 stand range. The range had targets stands at 100, 200 400 500 and 600 yards. (The 600 yard target is a life size metal buffalo, 500 yard has two round metal gongs)
I was shooting squirrels with 6mm Remington and my friend was using his 25-06.
My longest shot was about 300 yards. The grass was too tall and it was difficult to see the squirrels.
We moved to another range and really slayed them. The grass was a little shorter and the sun was shining better. I was hitting them consistantly between 200 and 260 yards. Several were a little closer and some were farther.
The 55 grain Ballistic tips out of my 6mm blow up a squirrel! I have not chronographed the load but I believe it is close to 4,000 fps. My best guess is 3,700- 3,800 fps.
Daryl changed to his .223 and really knocked the shit out of a few at the closer range.
Anyone else like to blow up ground squirrels?
It was a great day at the range!
I also shot my 10-22 with the new Leupold 3-9X50 VXI scope. It did great.
