So far they haven't touched it aside from language, and if there's anywhere to butcher, it's during the opening.

I'm shocked, actually.

The part that always gets me is when Marshall reads the letter from Lincoln.

Damn.

And to think, they made the Omaha landing look EASY in the movie.

SPR dosn't get to me the same way it used to.  Don't get me wrong, as long as I view it as just entertainment, i'm fine, but my historical detail oriented side just dosn't get all that excited about it anymore.

I used to get choked up about it until I watched 'Band of Brothers'.  Thats when I realized that SPR is nothing but fiction, albeit with much fact intersperced throughout, but the f'ed up storyline ruins it for me now.

The part when there is the breakdown of disciplin in the unit, the interfighting, pointing guns at eachother and arguing while deep in enemy territory kinda screws the whole thing up for me.

BOB on the other hand shows how no matter how bad it got, they still stuck together regardless of how they felt about eachother and BOB was entirely taen straight from the horses mouth and not just "based on a true story".

Wish I had Boomerang.

Have to decide what to get, satellite or cable, at my new home.

SPR still does it for me on a larger level, not a character-specific level. To think what so many thousands went through that morning. Wow.

The biggest coward on the beach that day was braver than I'll ever be. May God bless them all and keep them in His care forever.

I can't watch it. Never have been able to.

At the part where that little pussy sits and cries while that goose-stepping Nazi drives a bayonet into one his own teammates, I just go nuts. It ruins the movie for me because I get so worked up. Hell, I'm getting mad just sitting here and typing about it.

+1
(note: I am NOT criticizing negatively! I agree, those men were, and are, heroes.)

The thing that chokes ME up is the 'mathematical game'... which, in Gettysburg,  was explained by Gen. Longstreet, describing Pickett's Charge... Essentially, you have to put enough people charging across 'that small, deadly space' to get enough of them to the enemy line to be able to put up a fight... Those that fall, do so that the rest can fight!

I hope to God we never forget this... We forget them to our everlasting shame, and tyrants forget them to their everlasting dishonor... that America may still produce such magnificent children!

I've onlyseen the whole movie once and I, too, hit the ceiling in that scene.

Best war movie ever made.
Last I checked they only edited out the F-bombs.
Looking forward to "Flags of Our Fathers", should be coming out around Memorial Day.

Some scenes from the book "The Longest Day" that were too bloody for the movie found their way into "Saving Private Ryan." One of these was the scene where the soldier on the beach was running around carrying his own severed arm.

Eww!

He plays this loser guy brother of the US President in a lame zombie movie that mocks the war in Iraq on the Showtime Masters of Horror series too...

I love a crappy zombie film, but that one just sucked...

You know, the beach scene, the bayonetting of Mellish, the Medic dying.  All that shit bothers me.  But you know what scene bothers me the most?

After the medic dies.  When Capt. Miller asks what the pool on him is up to.  He explains that for the past 11 years he's been a schoolteacher.

I have no clue why.

He completely takes the squads' mind off the subject at hand and gives them something else to think about. Maybe coming completely out of left field like that worked, did it not?

I can never maintain dry eyes while watching SPR. The ending always gets me.

Think about it: How in the hell can you live your life in such a way as to honor the memory of those who sacrificed everything they have to save your ass?

But, this gets to me even more.
