I never call in sick if I am not pretty sick.  I have too much vacation and personal time to have to abuse sick days.  I used to rarely need to be out sick but as I have gotten older I catch flu at least once a year and have a couple of bad colds each year which keep me home for a day or two.  I must have close to 1,000 hours of sick leave accumulated.

Never. I use a vacation day or make it up on the weekend.

eta: I get 15 sick days or some crazy number...I don't think that I use more than 2 per year and I make that up easily since I work 55 hours a week on average.

Too sick to work? My father in law (boss) doesn't like that so it doesn't happen.

One half of one day in as many years back as I can remember.

Now I have come to work with pneumonia, with torn ligaments, and with explosive body fluids.  Just have our IT tech rig a phone and computer closer to the bathroom is all.

Damnation!  This is management in the closest thing so something vaguely resembling a shadow of what was once free enterprise.  Some employee gets a hangnail and he is off to the clinic.  Me, I could hemorrage out at my desk, and no one would care until the customers' orders didn't get out on time.

I work in investigations in a local casino in Atlantic city, NJ and were free to call out sick as much as we like but we acquire points for calling out whether your sick or not. If you call out during the week it’s only 1 point, but for a weekend it’s 2 unless you have a doctor’s note then it’s considered 1 point. I disagree with the point system due to if your really to sick to come in then you wont be any use at work.

If I’m sick I still make it to work and try to get an early out with sick time, this way I won’t get any points. The only bad thing about that is, I live 45 min away. I’ve worked there almost 3 years now and I’ve called out sick 4 times. I don’ think that’s a major deal at all.

Salaried and Contract...

If I stay home sick, I get to work from home all day. WooHoo!

Once or twice a year, I'd guess.

Sometimes if I'm just feeling shitty, I won't call in sick, but I'll work from home, which, for my position, is nearly as effective.

On the other hand, there are times I've gone to work quite sick.  I don't think that is ever the right thing to do.  Risking other people's health so that you can thump your chest in a macho manner is never the right thing.

Never.  I never wake up at 11pm and say to myself "It's too nice of a night to go to work"

Almost never. My latest sting is 3 years and two months with ZERO days missed.

I have been working at the new job for about 4 months and had one sick day.

LMAO!! I'm salaried and I have only called in sick 1 day in my 13 years with this company.  Even the day I called in sick I lied about it.  I was actually on a job interview.

I have missed 3 days total in 17 years.  Squirting out both ends on two seperate occasions.  Work thru everything else,  but can't puke or poop on patients so I stayed home.

Why waste a sick day by being sick???
I think I've had one... maybe three legit sick days in 15 years.
All the rest are "mental health days"... Where I work it's pretty much expected you'll book off at least six per year 'cause they're paid at 100%. The next 124 days are paid at 75%. Any more than off in a row you "might" get asked for a doctors note...
Each year the employer issues an attendance threshold... Sort of a bench mark number of sick days staff can take before you might get asked if you need help with anything that is affecting your sick time
'Last few years it's ben around 11-14 days... So in reality many staff look at the 11-14 days as their sick time entitlement

7 times in the last 30 years. 4 of them in the hospital with double pnemonia.
