total horseshit or what? I understand it means the Mayan calendar ends in Dec 2012? I looked around online but only see wacky nutball sites. Sorry if this is really duped. I recall seeing something in a SHTF thread awhile back but i just saw my local news is having a bit on it tonight at 11. Anyone got the real goods on the topic?

The Mayan calendar isnt what should worry you. Chuck Norris' personal wall calendar stops at new years eve of 2011.

this just in: it's the belief of a religion that the world will end in 2012! Are they wrong? Who knows, but we'll find out in 5.5 years!

I assume this is the standard readjustment of the "end of the World" date as the the date passes, the world doesn't end and a new date is required.

All Glocks are programed to KB at the same time on 1-1-2012.

I think a "chaos cloud" is supposed to engulf the solar system in that year.

Yep, that's the next end of the world. The one after that isn't for another 15 years....

We should all prepare. I mean, you saw how much damage Y2K did to our world.

The guys who spent their life savings on guns and shelters for Y2K...
Then when nothing happened, they spent the next few years warning everyone about "UN Invasions" and the "New World Order".
During this period, their wives and girlfriends left them. They descended into a deep, powerful depression.
Now they just want it all to end.

Its the myans year 2000 issue.. they did not allocate enought place holders for their calendar system to run past the year 2012 (in the gregorian calendar .. or is it the julian calendar)

The Mayan calendar runs out in 2012. Like they needed anything past 1520 or so anyway.

This just in... the world may end in 2012, but Napoleon_Tanerite will continue to rattle out 80 posts per day... that is all...

Always gotta have something that'll "END THE WORLD"

I heard the earths magnetic poles will shift again (they have shifted before) and this will pretty much kill everyone.
The ancient Egyptians knew this as it had happened before.

Not much you can do about that one...

There’s two schools of thought.

One, commonly held by hippies holds that the Mayans were much more advanced and wiser than we are. The obviously lived in harmony with the Earth Mother and learned great things about the nature of the universe that we can’t even begin to understand.

After all they could build buildings out of ROCKS while we have to resort to using cheap substitutes like steel, and bricks. The Maya could predict the orbit of the planets and all we can do is navigate a probe to those planets and land on them. The Maya had spiritual healing and all we’ve got is MRI machines and brain surgery. So obviously they had some way of knowing exactly when the world would end and put it on their calendar.

The other school of thought, held by everyone who isn’t stoned off their ass, believes that the Maya did some pretty neat stuff with stone age technology but they didn’t have any more clue about the future than we do. They apparently believed the universe ran in cycles and placed the end of this cycle in 2012. Which was far enough away that none of them ever needed to worry about it, but close enough to make for some good stories…. Sorta like how a lot of our science fiction is set 200-500 years from now.

Here’s a quick test to see which one you believe…

Do you spend more money on recreational pharmaceuticals than you do on meat?

Yes/No

If you answer “yes” you can believe the first theory. If you answer “no” then you believe the second.

it would be more remarkable if the Mayan calendar went to infinity.

Nothing's gonna happen.

Didn't Nostradamus say WW3 was going to be in 1998 or something?
Link Posted: 4/3/2006 6:29:40 PM EDT
I doubt there is much more to it than "wacky, nutball" stuff.

There are real things that really happen that are worth having some preparations for. Concentrate on those. The goal is to die an old man in your bed after you screwed the shit out of some nubile 23 year old.

Nostradamus didn't say a damn thing that made any sense.
No surprise since he stoned to the gills the entire time.

The Earth is round so there is no ends. Y2K all over again. I better start stalking up on cans of beans.

Great, just great. This is the way my luck always goes - I work and work, and just as things begin to come together the world ends.
