First of all I'm not a fan of cats but I don't hate em either. PI[E]TA types can keep your dumbass statements to yourself. Cat lying by the side of the road in the open alfalfa field. Been there a for at least 5 or 6 hours. Has not moved and in the open. Finally walked over there and looked at it. Looks like HELL. Eyes all matted and one shut. Nose runny. Fur looks like heck, all bedraggled and the thing never moved.

Got a stick and GENTLY prodded it [I have no damn idea who's cat this is and I'm not walking up to it, grabbing it and getting clawed up] Bugger hauls ass across the field and acts like it's not hurt but it sure as heck looks like it is SICK, very skinny also.

I have no idea if it was hit by a car or has something else like distemper. However I have pets of my own and IF it is sick I'd just as soon put it out of it's misery and not let my pets take the chance of picking up something. [my dogs WOULD go after it]

Animal control is NOT going to pick it up. They could care less about cats in the country and either want them caught and brought in to them at which point they will just put it down anyways [sick]or they will not bother at all.

Leaning toward putting a round into it and putting it down myself. Right now its across the field laying down again in the open. Easy enough to walk up a bit toward it and putting a .22 or 9mm into it. Never seen this cat around here so I suppose some city SOB could have dumped it off. It happens.

Cat of Truth.
BTW, I like animals as much as the next guy, but that just don't sound right.  You don't mention tags or anything, so I'm assuming it is feral.

It doesnt sound healthy. Most feral cats would run like hell before you get close to them. Sounds like hes pretty sick.

You could always nurse him back to health and then post pics like the guy with the bird did.

Birds don't get rabies.

I would shoot it.

I'm allergic to cats, NOT going to happen. Period.

Put it out of its misery - it is suffering.  A 22 round to the head is quick and humane.  I love animals, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.  Kill it and end its misery.

It escaped from the kitchen of some chinese restaurant.  Seriously, put it out of it's suffering.

I would put it down if it was me.  A lot more humane then being mauled by a dog or ran over.

put it on some plastic sheeting, and take it to the vets, as long as your pets have had their shots you need not worry.

As a big cat person, I'd say it's your call.  If it really looks that bad, do it.  I'd hate more to see a cat suffer longer than need be than to see it put out of its misery.

I had a sick cat once that I ended up taking to the vet because she was bleeding from the mouth.  The moment the vet touched her she got all violent.  I'm not sure what was wrong with her, but he had to  put her down right there.  Sad, yeah, but sometime's there's just nothing you can do.

It needs to either be taken to a vet or put out of it's misery.  While I am very attached to our stray that's 13+ years old, this one sounds too far gone.  Git'er done, it's suffering now and that can't continue.

Don't use a 22. Use a 9mm so it won't suffer as much.

It might still be alive for a couple of minutes if you use a 22.

Kill it. I had a feral cat around my house at one time that I just watched getter sicker and skinnier. Finally got to the point I knew I was doing it a favor, it was obviously suffering.

BTW, I don't trust .22's either. 12 gauge does the trick very nicely.

Has anyone seen this months predator extreme?  It has a good article about ferrel (sp?) cats.  A Wisconson congressmen I believe introduced a bill that would put ferrel cats as non-protected animal.  I wish they would do that in SC...  Open season on kittys cats

If the cat seems to be seriously ill or dangerous, better safe than sorry. A .22 bullet through the head is more humane than letting it suffer or infect others.

Then again, if it just has a cold and was taking a nap until you prodded it with a stick...

Bye Bye Kitty. Thing weighed about 3 pounds at most. Definately sick. 38 wadcutter. Had something wrong with it for sure. People dump sick or unwanted animals in my area all the time. For some unknown reason they think it's kinder to dump then put it down. Dumbasses.

I like animals in their right place. This one sounds terminal. A cat will lay down to conserve energy when it is sick, where a dog will try to please you untill it dies.
It sounds like this cat needs a Kavorkian moment.

Why? I don't have cats, never have, never will. Don't really know how they act if they are REAL sick. I know a bit about what deseases they can get but not how they act if they are about ready to kick off. It was not bothering me BUT if it is [was] sick I'd just as soon put it out of it's misery. Better then letting the thing die over a few days. Wife noticed it yesterday in the same place I saw it.

IBTL

Get a medium cardboard box.  Place an open can of Brand-X tunafish.

Pace off 100M.  Find a nice shooting position (go wild - standing, sticks, prone, lawn chair)

Think if it as MilDot practice.  Cat is 14" tall.... how many Mil is that?

Oh - and post pics.
