Quoted:
Quoted: Fairfax, Va.: You said earlier that you only support gun bans if locality votes for them. Why did you support and continue to call for 1994 Assault Weapon Ban that was passed on Federal level?
James and Sarah Brady: I was speaking of bans on all firearms. There has to be a line drawn between legitimate firearms and weapons of war. We don't sell rocket launchers to the civilian population - and assault weapons fall in that category. They have no legitimate purpose except in war.

and let's grant them that.... say they're right and the ONLY use for our guns is war.....
then they still remain essential- the second ammendment is to empower citizens to enforce the constitution on the gov't. the idea was the there may come a day when the civilians need to go to war with the gov't- and should be armed accordingly

This is the ugly truth you'll never hear uttered on Capitol Hill, or in the halls of the highest court. The attitude is that it's a "hunting amendment", never mind that the term "hunting" is found nowhere in the Constitution. A large segment of hunters is unfriendly to the 2nd Amendment.
Now, as for this:

There's a legal distinction between "arms" (eg. firearms) & "ordnance" (eg. "rocket launchers"). And for the record, it
is legal for a civilian to own a grenade launcher.
I wish the SCOTUS would deal w/ the hard truth just once concerning the whole issue. Pipe dream.
