Ever notice there seems to be different views about gun ownership even when it comes to gun owners?

For example, there are a lot of hunters & bench rest shooters who say that "assault weapons" have no place in our country... There are gun owners who feel that we are crazy for wanting to own anything other than a black powder rifle or single shot, or bolt action gun....

Now what the hell is up with that??? I think that the media is so successful in thier attempts to paint us a certain color that even OTHER GUN OWNERS are starting to look down on us.

They are successfully dividing us as a group...

Does anyone think we should start calling our so called "assault weapons" something else such as "homeland defense rifle"

If we could get "homeland defense rifle" to become a catch phrase the way the media did with "assault rifle", I think a lot of folks would view our guns as being less "evil"

It is strange how verbage can create an opinion on a subject.... the media & government knew how powerful this tactic is........

...... It is time we start using thier own tactics against them..... I think a lot of folks who have never really been into guns would want (or hopefull feel the NEED) for a "homeland defense rifle"

It needs to become a catch phrase...... "homeland defense rifle"

ETA: I didn't come up with this on my own.... I found it on a website.... And I think the people who started this are on to something

Then once they had thier much needed homeland defense rifle (afterall, you don't want to be unAmerican & NOT have a homeland defense rifle)..... Then when they went out to practice with thier new "HDR" they would see how much fun the shooting sports really are

But not having a "homeland defense rifle" would be downright UN American!

99.9% of these hunters that call semi-automatic rifles “assault rifles” couldn’t identify one if their life depended on it, damn Kool Aid

Hey. forgive me if this is some kind of 4 year old dupe that I know nothing about.... I know that I certainly have not heard anyone use the term homeland defense rifle.... So therefore it needs to be brought up again instead of some folks trying to start a F*&*^%&^cking keyboard war

If some use less threatening terms already then great.... But nothing less threatening has become a CATCH PHRASE yet.... And it needs to.... I said I came across this verbage on a website... if that site was made in 2002, so be it....

But it is still "assault rifle" that is being used by the general public to describe our guns.... NOT a less evil term....

ETA: I know that we all feel the same way about this issue & that some already make sure to use less evil verbage when talking about thier guns... I am just merely saying that we need to coin a phrase & everyone needs to use it.....

Afterall, if we can't be on the same side on here, then how the hell are we going to win this thing.

"homeland defense rifle" is an excellent way to describe the AR-15. I never call my AR-15's assault rifles simply becasue they are not. Liberal, socialist, communist, uses labeling to try to win a arguement
Of course our left wing socialist press goes along with it. Read this book which exposes the tactics the libtards use----------www.amazon.com/gp/product/0446693642/102-0173043-7452966?n=283155

I always let these type shoot my M4gry at the range. Smiles and changed attitudes usually result from this. I get a kick out of the fact that I always put a new 30 rder in and they usually shoot all 30. I am sure to mention that they just went thru 30 Rds and and ask if they had fun. Many times guys see things a little different than before and a nice converstaion comes from it. I have had more than once that these guys say that they can see why people like these EBR's and that they are not all bad. SOmtimes they even want one

I am doing my part.

Homeland Defense Rifle

I'll start using the term. I've never called any rifle in my collection an assault rifle anyway. As matter of fact my toys are more likely to be used as defense weapons anyway. I just can't see myself assaulting anyone. But defending myself now your talking.

If I may make a kind suggestion, perhaps you should consider dropping the "land" in "homeland." It's kind of cumbersome.

ALL ARFcomers should be aware that the military defines an "assault rifle" as a select fire weapon. Now the vast majority of us forum members probably suffer from (relative) poverty to the same degree that I do and cannot afford a true $10,000 assault rifle. So I LIKE the idea of 'Homeland Defense Rifle'. It helps us peg our favorite EBR's exactly where they belong, rather than where the commie gun-banners want middle America to THINK they are. Labels are a powerful thing to a generation raised on slogans, quick sound bites and the like. The left understands this as they understand the concept of Stalin's Big Lie ( they are using it against us with the "assault rifle" label!).

I hope the idea takes off. I will do my best to support it whenever I can. However most people I associate with are the already-converted. Arizona, after all is a great state to live in, what with class III weapons at the range every day. Mostly the Kalifornia transplants are the ones we have to go after, as they are still brainwashed and trying to export their socialistic politics and ruin my adopted home state!

Just my .02 from a newbie!

My ARs are "varmit rifles" and AK is my "kayak gun". Varmit gun is for varmits and my kayak gun is for the DDDs. (drunks, derelicts, dopers)

Unfortunately for all of us gun owners, most of the 50-something hunters, feel that military styled rifles are the very lightning rod which attracts the gun-ban crowd's ire for all firearms. I hunt, but I'm also not blinded by the gun-ban organization's propaganda. Make just one concession, and the domino effect is inevitable. We either stand as one cohesive group, or we'll fail. No middle ground here folks. Attacking the hunting community isn't gonna help our cause. Educating and providing honest facts are our only hope. We must band together, not fight amongst ourselves. Also, there are opportunities to introduce young people to the joys of shooting and hunting that can only help preserve our freedoms in the future. Pissing, moaning, pointing fingers, and blaming will only help our foes to further realize their goals.

Well gee I'm so glad to see so many of you being so enthusiastic about a newbie coming on board & expressing his concerns about gun ownership & how the media spins everything against us...... And bringing up something he found on another website, & saying something about it on here in hopes of it finding someone who hasn't seen or heard of this yet....

Ok, so Homeland defense rifle is a bit much to say..... In retrospect I agree with you. But saying assault rifle is just as retarded... We don't assault anyone with them

Perhaps something like home defense rifle would be better (less syllables), or some other term....

But if the media is going to have a catch phrase that they use to make our guns seem evil to the general public, then we need to decide on a damn catch phrase to make them seem less threatening to the public

Assault= aggression & violence...... Defense= protecting & defending get it?

Why do you think so many people are anti gun who know nothing about guns?

because they equate them to being used for assault, not defense duhhhhhhhhhhh

Think about the damn words fellas.... Homeland defense..... It instills a sense of patriotism in people....

We need a good positive catch phrase whether you want to admit it or not..... To just say " Oh well it's stupid to worry about what they call my rifle" is almost having a defeatest attitude....

I admit I am new to your board..... But I will not bow down to being flamed over something as common sense as what I have posted about....

To those of you who DO try to use less threatening terms for your guns, I say great... that's the idea.

To those of you bashing me for being a noob & trying to contribute & help, I say grow up.

Now that is good posting sir..... I empathize with your sentiment on catching flack for something that you wouldn't catch hell over if none of us had guns like the AR & AK.... I am not a hunter ( I did do some coon hunting with my uncles when I was younger), but I do understand completely where you are coming from....

And kudos to you for understanding the need for us to be cohesive as a group...

Think about it something like "homeland defense rifle" or some other terms that eludes to patriotism would probably quell some of the thoughts from other hunters simply due to the fact that it sounds more "patriotic", which would only unite us further....

I don't care whatcha all say...... As far as I'm concerned, Making our rifles synonymous with patriotism is a GOOD thing...

And it WOULD be POSSIBLE to make folks start to associate the two if we all get on the same page with this.
Link Posted: 3/26/2006 7:56:40 PM EDT
MODS.... This should be TACKED as a reminder to all ARFCOMERS alike.
We should all embrace this rationale and add to the productive thoughts and critical thinking that may help our cause. Banding together is a streangth we could capitalize on and in doing so make our voice understood without provocation and ultimately reducing the backlash of liberal brainwashing.

So how bout it.....
THIS THREAD SHOULD BE TACKED
And let the critical thinking continue in an attempt to to cease the ''anti-effort.''

Why not just call them "rifles"?

"Homeland defense rifle" sounds like something an internet commando who only owns a Tapcorized WASR-10 would say. It's almost as dumb as "main battle rifle".
Link Posted: 3/26/2006 8:32:07 PM EDT
so, many of us need to go to anti-gun web sies and voice our honest concerns about banning Homeland Defense Weapons. It would also help to write magazine and newspaper editors everytime there is an anti-gun article to express the vigilance in being prepared with the HDW. Write politicians and use that phrase so it becomes heard often.
You have a good idea.

What? I keep my main battle rifle next to the driver's seat of my main battle tank.

Also I keep main battle rations and a change of main battle clothes in the main battle tank.

After a long day of main battle battle, I drink main battle gatoraid and have a main battle power bar before heading home to have main battle supper. Edit: With the main battle wife.

*DING DING DING* Give that man a prize !

For the new guys in this thread, unfortunately THAT RIGHT THERE is the reason it doesn't matter one friggen bit, what WE call them......

The scumbag leftist, anti-American BIASED press will keep right on with the negative connotation through THEIR choice of labels......

This idea has been brought up here in the past more than once. Same exact phrase even... Unfortunately, and SADLY, it's a moot point, since we HAVE no control over what gets broadcast, printed, or sent out to the average joe, beyond the VERY small minority of right-leaning press/publications, etc

There's SO few out there on OUR side, that the libtard scumbags could call it a block of cheese and your average, everyday sheeple will take it as gospel, because those same biased, hypocritical pieces of crap CONTROL the media in this country.......

Catchy names and phrases are certainly well intentioned, but realistically....... They just won't work.

Until there is TRUE impartiality in the media, even our best efforts will amount to a not much more than a hill of beans.

And for that to happen...... Well, I'm not gonna hold my breath and wait.
